Accurate, yet not heavy handed,

This review is from: The Breastfeeding Answer Book : Expanded (Spiral-bound)
La Leche League can sometimes have a reputation of harboring zealots, and "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" doesn't do much to dispel that reputation. This book, OTOH, is great: accurate, and very approachable. Most breastfeeding mothers won't need this book, and it is quite pricy, but if you work with mothers and babies in any capacity, it's a great book to have. (most mothers could use "So That's What they're For! Breastfeeding Basics" or "The Nursing Mother's Companion", or "The Womanly Art...") Information in this book is very straight-forward, easy to understand, very thorough and very easy to find. I like that. Most pediatricians and family practitioners could benefit from consulting this book on growth, milk supply, the hazards of giving a "relief bottle", and general ability to communicate with mothers.

Very Informative,

This book has so much information, yet it's not overwhelming nor is it written in a way that a typical mom couldn't read it and understand it. My copy has been well-used! And since my dream is of becoming a Lactation Consultant, you can bet that it'll be used much more in the future.Every medical professional involved with childbirth and babies would have a copy of this book in order to help expectant and new mothers with questions. There is too much misinformation and too many wrong answers to our needs. It's because of those wrong answers that so many moms give up on breastfeeding and fall into the "I couldn't do it" trap. That's totally unfair to them and to their babies. And to expectant parents, yes, it's an expensive book but if you are going to be a nursing family, I would highly recommend this book to you. This book is DEFINITELY the answer book!

For those interested in having a breastfeeding resource, whether a professional or not, this book is a must have. If you need to address a breastfeeding concern, you are more than likely to find it in this book. There are milk storage guidelines, review of the various types of breastpumps, a basic list of medications and their effect on breastfeeding, as well as information on mastitis, engorgement and basic suggestions for making breastfeeding work. If you work with breastfeeding mothers, or would just like a resource available to you, you must get this book.

The most comprehensive, user friendly breastfeeding book.,

I have an 8 month old daughter who has been solely breastfed since birth (no bottles). The benefits of this to her (and me) are innumerable but it has not been without its struggles. This book helped me through problems with let-down, biting, nutrition (for me), introducing solids, and with many other issues. I would have had a much more difficult time continuing to breastfeed as long as I have without this indispensable resource and for that I am very grateful. I only wish I had gotten it before giving birth as learning to breastfeed would have been MUCH easier.

This book is designed to educate and easily provide specific facts and information to the health professional and lay person who is interested in breastfeeding and finding their way through the process. The Breastfeeding Answer Book really answers all the questions and directs you to the appropriate resources for back up and more information. This is a permanent fixture in my library. The pages are already dog eared.

This is a very good reference book for anyone who works in the field of lactation. It is not a book that you should read cover to cover; instead, it is a reference tool. One downside to this book is that the index leaves a lot to be desired. It is not complete and it is poorly organized. Yes, it is in alphabetical order, but the words they indexed are often not helpful. I generally find I have to go through the TOC to find what I need - something a bit backwards from other reference material. Other than that, this is well worth the money.

HI. I am writing this review because I absolutely love this book. I got it after taking a non profit groups volunteer phone counseling class for breastfeeding counselors, and it was awesome to have to look at. I used this for myself as well as moms that I counseled with breastfeeding. This book is an amazing source of information from problems with breastfeeding, to the jaundiced baby breaking down & explaining bilirubin levels to you, as well as proper positioning, thrush, sore nipples, relactation, adoptive lactation! Tons and Tons of information that any breastfeeding mother, volunteer breastfeeding counselor, IBCLC, or DR/Nurse would find as honest practical advice! I have used this with now 2 breastfed children and countless new moms!

This is absolutely the best book on the market for helping breastfeeding moms. Completely non-judgemental and very informative, with details that 99% of other books leave out. This book will help the nursing mother succeed and doesn't pander down to a lower intelligence level. This book is currently being revised again to include more info on breast reduction surgery and other "new" breastfeeding circumstances. Really helpful if you work with nursing moms and moms-to-be. If you are a mother who doesn't plan to work with other mothers, borrow a copy from the library or your local La Leche League group. I am a doula/childbirth educator and refer to it weekly. You can find it on eBay once in a while.

The Best Guide for Breastfeeding Moms,

This is the best book by far for answers to your breastfeeding questions. I am on my second baby now (exclusively breastfed for 5 months to date.) Breastfeeding my first baby started out as a big nightmare. I quit at least twice. I had no support system- most of my family and in-laws couldn't understand why I wouldn't just give formula to the baby. I was in pain and the baby was not latching on correctly. I purchased several books before I found this one, which I wish I had found first. The Breastfeeding Answer Book was a LIFESAVER! It had the answers to ALL of my questions. After several false starts, I finally got the hang of it. My first baby and I breastfed for over a year. It was wonderful and this book is one of the reasons why. Buy this and enjoy!

I loved this book! I bought this when having difficulty nursing my second baby. After having experience with nursing, I was surprised after 8wks and visiting with a lactation consultant (which cost me $75) I was still having discomfort. I found this book to be a great resource!
