As the founder and former president of "The Military Writer's Society of America" (MWSA) I have reviewed well over 600 military related books over the last decade. I have never been asked to review any book in that time on "breast-feeding". I wasn't sure therefore how I would be qualified to know what constituted a well written manual for this genre. I did not even know there was a need for one. That I was so ignorant of the need leads me to think that commanders and NCOs of units with breastfeeding mothers in them do not have a clue as to the needs of their women soldiers , sailors, Marines or airmen. In fact, after reading this book ("Breastfeeding In Combat Boots: A Survival Guide to Successful breastfeeding While Serving in the Military" by Robyn Roche-Paull) I realized that we have a crisis need for such books.

I got the education of my life - and can only assume that others will as well. This book is not just for the mothers but should be mandated for all those in leadership positions who really need to know and understand what the issues are. The author relates the problems and cites the regulations and is very specific and practical. It is obvious that this book is well researched and detailed with information for all involved. This is a manual that belongs of the office shelves of all military units. It is long over-due and in today's modern military it is needed and should be required.

For military women having this life situation it is indispensable. The regulations are made clear and one would have to assume that if followed this would advert a lot of potential problems and misunderstanding on both sides of this issue. There is an abundance of great and very practical advice, information and details.

This is a MUST HAVE book for all military moms. I am active duty navy, and I have breastfed and pumped for 3 children all while active duty. I am also a Labor and Delivery nurse at the military hospital and see all the active duty moms who deliver and are planning to breast feed. I ALWAYS recommed purchasing this book, it is so helpful, has many answers to breast feeding issues. It addresses the challenges that can go along with breastfeeding and pumping in the military and how to overcome them. These can be unique challeneges that no other work force encounters. This book has been something that has been long needed for military mothers.

As an Active Duty Navy mom, this book has already proven to be a Godsend. I knew I could breastfeed and pump as per Navy regs, but the question was how could I work it out at work. Most of the people I work with are men and although I don't care about telling them I am going to pump, they might be uncomfortable. This gives me an idea on how to inform them, as well as good ideas on how to fit it into my work day and get my baby to switch between breast and bottle. I recommend it to ANYONE in the military, men and women alike so maybe we can make it easier for other women.

If you think you have every breastfeeding manual that you could ever need, you are mistaken. Most books about working and breastfeeding do not apply to mothers who are in the military (or those in similar fields such as EMT or police officer). This book is the perfect manual for military mothers. Each section of the book is carefully and thoroughly researched. In addition to giving the "how to" of making breastfeeding work in a very challenging & difficult work environment, it also provides the regulations for each branch of service to ensure that mothers know their rights. It is clear that the author has spent time ensuring that all the information she provides is up to date and accurate.

I highly recommend this book to mothers and those who are in a position to support the breastfeeding military mother. This information has been needed for a very long time and now we finally have it in a lightweight easy to read book. As a breastfeeding counsellor at a Navy Base, this will be an invaluable resource for me. THANK YOU!

I've never been in the military, but as a board-certified lactation consultant, I have long sought specific information to help my breastfeeding clients who are serving in the military. But this book really surpases my expectations!

I'm very impressed by the depth and extent of the information. This book provides accurate, very specific, well-versed ideas and practical recommendations in clear, military-style language that doesn't sugar-coat the realities, but also shows the many ways that breastfeeding can happen that work for the mom, the baby, and the military. I particularly like the way that the author emphasizes the importance of maxmizing the mother and baby's time together so that they make the most of it and enjoy it fully.

This wonderful new book fills a much needed niche in the breastfeeding literature and is now one of my favorite breastfeeding books. It's so great to know that now more military moms will be able to stay connected to their babies through breastfeeding!

This is an EXCELLENT resource for any woman who MUST return to work or be separated from her baby after a few weeks. The first part is a great basic primer on breastfeeding. The second is a basic "how to" do everything to combine working and breastfeeding. Great for women who want inspiration on combining working and exclusive breastfeeding. Also great for women who want to breastfeed some of the time, but can't pump at work. LOVE IT!!!
