5.0 out of 5 stars You'll LOVE this book!
Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy is one of my and my children's FAVORITE books! The colorful illustrations make us smile as we see other children (from all around the world!) breastfeeding and enjoying being with each other. The rhyme is infectious. My daughter quickly learned to finish the sentences, participating in the reading. She now holds the book herself and can...

I often give it as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this book, September 22, 2002
By A Customer
My daughter loves this book! I realized it was the only book we had that had a story line that is anything like her real life.

They need to have a board book version of this book.

EDITED TO ADD: Fast forward to the future. We just ordered a second copy of this book for our younger daughter because the old copy was in rags from being read so many times. Imagine our delight and surprise when we found that it is a BOARD BOOK now! We were just plain thrilled, because that was the book's only shortcoming before. This is our favorite book, right up there with Goodnight Moon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recognizes breastfeeding as normal, September 1, 2006

I bought this for my breastfed daughter's first Christmas. It's great to have a children's book that recognizes breastfeeding as normal. I'm sick of having to skip over books that show babies with bottles! I'm glad this book is here. The illustrations aren't top notch, but they're fine. Some of the prose is a bit forced, but again it's all worth it to have something so positive.

5.0 out of 5 stars My toddler loves this book!, October 17, 2001

This is the best children's book out there regarding breastfeeding. The pictures are great and really show the truth and beauty of the breastfeeding couple. The pictures illustrate how natural nursing is and that it is really done in just about any place, at anytime, by mothers around the world.
My toddler loves this kid-sized book as it fits right into his little hands and he can easily carry it around with him. My older boy also enjoys looking at the pictures and remembering his nursing days. The other day I overheard him saying "milk makes my tummy yummy, but mommy's milk is better" as he poured himself a glass of cow's milk.
A gem of a book for all!!

2.0 out of 5 stars this book disappointed me, June 12, 2008
i'm glad to see so many people love this book...but even as a fellow breastfeeding advocate, i just don't like it. my biggest problem with it are that the illustrations are just HIDEOUS! i'm a huge picture book fan...and i just cannot like a book that has, in my view, that ugly of illustrations. my daughter never liked it either. i never liked the rhyme much either. i have to agree with the other reviewer that said it was too "cutesy wootsey"...and i would add, forced.

i am an extended nurser, and breastfeeding advocate, so it surprises me to say that i felt the book seemed to be pushing the agenda. almost verging on propaganda. i hate to say that because i'm all about breastfeeding being represented in children's books....this one just seemed to go way overboard, in my view. obviously i'm in the minority on this view (looking at the other reviews)...but my husband was the first one to point this out to me and the more i looked at the book (which i never really liked anyway, but hadn't really thought much about the agenda til he pointed it out), the more i had to agree. i really just don't like this book and it sits on our shelf unread. :(

what i would like to see, instead of books focusing entirely on breastfeeding (which has, in our sad bottle feeding culture, an extremely limited audience), but instead have books with a real story that have breastfeeding shown as a side thing, just part of a normal everyday life (just as bottlefeeding now is shown). this way more people will get to see the books like this. breastfeeding books like this book are only going to be read and purchased by breastfeeding advocates...which in our culture is such a small percentage of us...so this book is really preaching to the choir...and over time, the more breastfeeding just casually shown (not as a focus of the book), i think the more natural it will be to the children and parents reading the books. this will get a broader audience and hopefully do more to spread the normalcy of breastfeeding.

that's just my 2cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, January 20, 2006
This review is from: Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy (Board book)
I love this book. The nursing situations portrayed are very realistic and hilarious (nursing in the bath tub, mom on the phone, nursing while cooking, etc). As you can tell from the front cover, the drawings do NOT show discreet nursing. If seeing bare nummies makes you uncomfortable, this is not the book for you! The book includes "older" children as well in their drawings. As I am nursing a toddler, I really appreciate the variety. My daughter can barely make it through the book with out asking for some milk. She asks for this book again and again!

I am so excited I found this book! I love reading and wanted my son to get the same appreciation for books I have. This book lets him learn to love books and see other children nursing! I want to nurse my son for an extended time and it is hard to find encouragement and this book gives me and my son the view of a child nursing. I especially like showing two children nursing together and the many cultures shown. Thank you so much!!

5.0 out of 5 stars we STILL are in love with this book!, June 1, 2002
By A Customer
I purchased this book when my son was about 1-year old. He loved it from the start and now, 2 years later, we love to read it together. He will point to the babies nursing and tell me "mama, baby drink chi-chi". Since he continues to get his own "chi-chi", he thinks it's pretty funny.

I highly recommend this book to moms and dads and their babies - and nursing toddlers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for another children's breastfeeding book!, May 30, 2006
Any children's book about breastfeeding is an asset to the much needed support and promotion of breastfeeding. This book has delighted my children countless times. My daughter especially likes the picture of a baby nursing the the bathtub. She signs bath and nurse over and over. A small and sturdy board book, Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy is especially great for little hands!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy (Board book)
I ordered a copy of Breastmilk makes my tummy yummy for my son's upcoming first birthday. It just arrived this morning and I have to say... this book is FANTASTIC! It is so adorable, cute pictures, cute rhymes, it shows tandem nursing, extended nursing, nursing in public, comfort nursing, and cosleeping. I couldn't be happier... I think it'll definitely be a nice memento for me to have in the future as well.

(Now, I can't wait to see the faces of my nay-saying inlaws when he opens it at his birthday party... hehehe)
