5.0 out of 5 stars The best Breath of Fire, hands down!, June 27, 2003
This review is from: Breath of Fire II (Video Game)
Breath of Fire is another RPG classic series. It was Capcom's experiment into the genre as Squaresoft ventured on with their Final Fantasy series. When I first heard of Breath of Fire, I played the first game for Super NES and liked it. Breath of Fire 3 just wasn't all that great to me, and while it wasn't a terrible game, it didn't have the classic feel the first game had. My friend Karl (reviewer Karl Jordan, Kudos to him) enlightened me by showing me Breath of Fire 2.

And boy have I been enlightened. After playing hours on end of this game, BREATH OF FIRE 3 IS VASTLY OVERRATED. This game has all the classic elements an RPG needs!

THE GOOD
A wonderful storyline involving a fake religion and Ryu's "misplaced childhood" is one of the best written RPG stories. This same storyline has been used countless times, even within the series, but no other game pulled it off as well as this. The characters are awesome and I think this has the best Ryu and Nina out of all the Breath of Fire games. The graphics are reasonably good, considering it's an early SNES game. The music? Very good, indeed. There are times when it sounds like Final Fantasy and at others, Mega Man X! Simply great music. Not perfect, why carp? The battle system is also good in the fact that you can do different abilities (examples: Nina can use "Will" to revive her MP, Sten uses "RiP" to play dead, etc. etc.). For some odd reason, this hasn't carried over into the other games in the series afterwards.

THE BAD
The only bad things I can say about the game are these:
1) Ryu's dragon transformation is really lackluster here, and it's been improved upon in later BoF entries.
2) The translation isn't all that great.

OVERALL
CLASSIC. Definitely a fine RPG if I ever saw one. I'm not sure why BoF 3 is considered the best by many; then again, in this day and age, hardly anyone ever cares for the old games. BoF 3, in my opinion, is a decent game overall but lacks the great qualities that this game possesses. It's a shame that this game goes unnoticed in today's gamers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game...........You gotta buy it, March 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Breath of Fire II (Video Game)
I bought this game right before they took it off the store shelfs and rose the price up.I loved the game for the most part but it took me almost 3 years to finish the game yes I know what your thinking "How Lame is that" but I got stuck in this one part and I couldn't figure out what to do but anyway. The game has Ryu the hero, a hunter Bow, Nina the princess of Windia, Sten a monkey that creeps me out, Spar a grassman, Katt a young lady warrior, Rand a large creature who personally I hate,And Bleu the snake lady makes her comeback to this game. The game is really about Ryu finding himself and his origin in this world, also In some main parts its about the townspeople's religion and how its taken over their lives and how it needs to be stopped. Some of the new stuff they have added in this game are shamans that give charecters special powers and looks, also you can build your own town that was pretty fun.I think the only problem I had in this game was that you had to buy the guide book to find some of the secrets but besides that you should buy this game you won't be upset with your purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb RPG for the SNES, June 23, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

Well. I'm a 28 old dude playing a looot around and I must say that being a Final Fantasy series fan, that BOF2 is a REALLY unmissable classic. I'm warning you, this game is not easy. It's far more difficult than FF6. More or les like FF 4 ( final fantasy 2 in america). You WILL die a lot if you don't buy many cures and level up always. A good challenge.

THE GOOD:
*Many twists and turns in very well done plot.
*Character fighting animation above all other RPG's of that time (really surpassing final fantasy and others.
*The music is awsome. You will remember always some melodies.
*Many minigames that are very fun!
*Fast paced combat action.
*BIG CHARACTERS AND BOSSES. unlike other rpgs that the characters look like kids, I'm telling again all these are the best monster, boss, character animation in any kind of snes rpgs.

THE BAD:
*Not so in-dept character development.
*When you talk to townspeople the chat is a little simple.

Conclusion: This game is 5 stars all the way. It's flaws are very little to make it lose a star.
If you're a fan of RPG's and your are tired of the new Rpg's "without a soul". You will be for sure satisfied with this great series fo RPG's of Capcom. It's a shame that the didn't release a new installment for the PS3.
