Editorial Reviews

Slow down and take a deep breath, and enjoy the first in a series of wonderful relaxing recordings. Just the thing to provide a welcome interlude of quiet in an otherwise hectic world. Breathe: the Relaxing Guitar is a collection of beautiful works played by several of today’s most gifted and acclaimed classical guitarists including David Russell, Angel Romero and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing guitar, May 7, 2007

An elderly guitarist. "RDA" (Redmond, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Breathe: The Relaxing Guitar (Audio CD)
I bought this CD especially for "Farewell to Stromness," a piece written by knighted Peter Maxwell Davies, transcribed for guitar by Timothy Walker, and performed by David Russell. The piece is of a Scottish folktune, and written as part of a successful grass-roots resistence to the potential destruction of the picturesque town of Stromness in the Orkney islands in Scotland. The resistence movement was titled "The Yellow Cake Review"--the yellow cake was a reference to a uranium open-pit mining that was planned next to the town. The rest of the CD is a wonderful collection of 20 pieces played by Russell, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Pepe (?or Angel)Romero, and others, covering Bach. Sting (!) and others, and ending with Stanley Myers "Cavatina," the now well-known background music for the "Deerhunter."
