2.0 out of 5 stars just didn't do it for me
This is a nicely put together little box. However, I found the instructional DVD to be a bit strange... I just couldn't watch the whole thing. I think it would have felt more comfortable if he wasn't using the woman as a dummy for the breathing work. I understand he wanted to talk and let her do the breathing, and point out things on her body, but it just didn't work...

One of the main reasons that I came to yoga years ago was to learn how to breathe, based on the advice of my dentist. Yes, my dentist. He had told me that one of the main reasons that I had dental issues was because I was a mouth breather. So, I decided to take up yoga and work on it. I've made a lot of progress over the years, but am always reading things on the importance of breath and constantly working to learn more about the process of strengthening my breathing.

This kit is a really big help to me. Breathing books can only tell you so much - having the DVD really brings the lessons home. Gay Hendricks is a very gentle guide and his exercises are straightforward and easy to learn. The techniques presented really do make a difference in your breathing. I have even showed these exercises to other breathing impaired people and they noticed how much calmer and more clear they felt. Don't bother just getting any old breathing book - purchase this kit and notice the difference for yourself.

"If you do not breathe well, it is almost impossible to feel good. If you do breathe well, your chances of feeling good are greatly enhanced." ~ Dr. Gay Hendricks

The 90-minute DVD teaches the breathing techniques and the Audio CD leads you through sessions complete with instructions on how you can recover from emotional trauma, reduce stress and increase your energy levels. Through watching the DVD and listening to the CD, you can practice breathing techniques that move you away from fight-or-flight breathing to a more relaxed deep breathing that reduces stress.

The information in "The Breathing Box" explains why breathing is something you want to pay more attention to throughout your life and also helped me understand why doing exercise DVDs made me feel so much more relaxed and happy. If you have been doing Pilates or Yoga, you may recognize some of the breathing techniques. Breathing deeply can help you deal with anger, fear, grief, anxiety or sadness.

The benefits of using this Breathing Box will become immediately apparent. Not only do I feel more peaceful after breathing more deeply, the world seems to have a renewed clarity and I can focus more intensely on important objectives instead of distracting emotions. As you follow along with the exercises on the DVD, you can feel how your deeper breathing is making you more relaxed. You can then take these exercises and use them daily to continue the positive effects.

I find these exercises especially useful while sitting at the computer as they ease neck and shoulder tension and can give you an immediate relaxation escape.

As a therapist I am always looking for tools that people can use on their own...in their own time and in their own quiet place. I tried this for myself and am now using it on a regular basis for therapy. It is amazing how many people pay no attention at all to their breathing! It has worked for teens with test anxiety and learning problems, people with the severe anxiety that comes with PTSD, with body and abuse issues, panic atacks, migraines, or even stress in relationships...the list goes on and on. Thanks, Gay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Health and Life, December 1, 2007

It still amazes me how few people understand the importance of breathing to physical, emotional, and mental health. Proper breathing is also said to increase long life. As we learn to consciously monitor our breathing we can consciously manage a variety of emotional, physical, and mental states. And, the breathing box shows us how to manage our breath in a variety of circumstances for a variety of results. As a counselor, I often recommend this to my clients and have always had good feedback from those who applied the techniques within. As has been mentioned in a previous review this "box" contains:

90 minute DVD
80 minute CD
48 page book
9 cards

The fact that you can learn in various ways (visual, audio, reading, etc) helps you ground the teaching through all your senses, making it easier to learn and remember. In short, I find this a very valuable add to anyone's library. I totally recommend it, which is why I even endorsed it in my book. - Dr. Lisa Love, Beyond the Secret

I think it would have felt more comfortable if he wasn't using the woman as a dummy for the breathing work. I understand he wanted to talk and let her do the breathing, and point out things on her body, but it just didn't work for me. Like I said, nice quality and all that, I just couldn't get into the presentation.

This is really good but very long winded. I would not listen to it again and I don't do the exercises but that being said it's still good. I would however recomend highly Dr.Weils book on breathing which I do use all the time.

3.0 out of 5 stars I could do without the moaning, September 16, 2011
This review is from: The Breathing Box (DVD)
I do like this video and believe it to be helpful, but I agree with one other review that the woman in the video made it uncomfortable. I could definitely do without Astara's moaning as she was breathing... the whole time, even while he was talking, you hear these moans going on in the background! Then he encourages the "sounds of pleasure!" It's almost pornographic--almost! Oh well.
