5.0 out of 5 stars Breathing Room clean takes your breath away., January 17, 2002

This review is from: Breathing Room [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Having been won over completely by this beautifully executed and poignant romance, I returned from the USA determined that everyone I knew should share in my experience. Alas, inexplicably it is not to be found at UK cinemas nor on Amazon.co.uk to purchase on video. This is a dreadful loss to British film makers and goers alike. Breathing Room is a fine stateside example of the type of localised, smaller budget movies that the UK film industry is so famed for.

Dan Futterman (The Birdcage\Shooting Fish) and Susan Floyd captivatingly portray a long standing 30 something couple, who are dancing around the edge of love, life & commitment, deciding whether or not to take the plunge.

The film is cluster of gemstone moments, such as when Kathy's grandmother gives her some woman-to-woman advice, the cheeky classroom scenes and not to forget the very personalised glimpse we get of Grand Central Station. Jon Sherman obviously has an intrinsic passion and pride for NY that naturally flows into this debut work, providing the movie with an essential grittiness and making Breathing Room an exceptionally insightful romance.

For goodness sake, please let the Limey's get a 'butchers' at this fantastic piece of cinema.
