5.0 out of 5 stars For horse-lovers...
It's a shame that this book is no longer readily available. It's one of the most entertaining stories I've read in a long time. The author really did his homework concerning thoroughbred horse racing. It is its own private world, not easily accessable to the general public. William Kinsolving did a wonderful job of weaving the factual world of racing and the fictional...

I'm sorry, I've read wonderful reviews of this book, and I'm not sure why. I kept reading it just because of the racing/horse subject matter, but the plot was so weak. There was more tragedy than I could keep up with and I was never able to like a character. I think in effort to keep the book dramatic, it just became overblown and exaggerated. I would not recommend it...

5.0 out of 5 stars A primer on the horse racing industry, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Bred to Win (Hardcover)
Hidden in the exciting story is a primer on the horse racing industry.

It graphically details the history and breeding of Thoroughbreds and the sometimes seamy business side of this "Sport of Kings".

Author William Kinsolving has obviously done a great deal of research and the reader will find himself becoming more informed about the whole business as the tale unfolds into what another reviewer said read like a teleplay for a miniseries - what's wrong with that?

5.0 out of 5 stars Bred To Win by William Kinsolving, April 26, 2008
This review is from: Bred to Win: A Novel (Hardcover)
I am an assitant Racehorse trainer(quaterhorse), an this book besides being a wonderfull romance novel, is very accurate of how life is on the backside at racetracks. It's good enough that for the last 5 years I read it once a year. Yes, it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bred to Win, July 14, 2005
This review is from: Bred to Win (Hardcover)
This book was given to my mother by her mother when the book hit the stands. I read it for the first time in 1996. Since then I have read it 3 other times and I am currently starting it again. Even though I have read it so many times and I remember the different ups and downs of the story it is still an awesome book to read in repitition. This is the perfect story in deplicting that no matter what back ground you come from if you want something bad enough and your willing to do what it takes to get there, there is no stopping you. I have to say out of all the novels i have read in my life (quite a few, i love to read anything with termoil) this one remains my favorite and probably always will.

Superb, Factual, Entertaining. This book is a great read. There seems to be a little bit of everything in the plot and it really grabs you. The character is well developed and suprisingly easy to relate to. Definitely recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bred To Win, June 29, 2000

This was the best book I've ever read! It's one of those where you can't put it down and at the end of every chapter you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. This book is excellent for students in highschool or even college. When called upon to write an essay on books, Bred to Win will fit into just about any situation!

I would not recommend it if you like an intelligent plot.
