Each episode focuses on one of up to 150 canine breeds. In each episode we will select one or two dogs that serve as our main guides through the colorful world of purebreds. Through interviews with owners, trainers, judges, breeders and veterinarians, we will explore the development of a "top dog". There are less than 2500 Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs in the U.S. By wildlife standards, the Swissy is an endangered species. This breed dates back to the 4th century and was derived from the ancient Tibetan Mastiff. For centuries the Swissy was a working dog for Swiss farmers, pulling massive weights and herding cattle. By the 19th century, machines replaced the Swissy and only in 1910 was the breed recognized by the Swiss Kennel Club rescuing it from extinction. With so few of these gentle giants - weighing over 120 lbs. - the national show is hosted in an owner's backyard!

Enjoyed watching it even though it is a bit limited as far as real information. They could use better specimens of the breeds.Published 23 months ago by akitagal
