3.0 out of 5 stars A CD that spells change, but not for the better
Those unsuspecting souls who order Lauren Christy's second CD "sight unseen" on the basis of her magical first outing expecting more of the same may be in for a rude awakening. "Breed" is a far cry from the fragile beauty of those delicate, piano/keyboard dominated songs she performed with such passion on her 1993 debut album.

For some...

"Breed" rules. That songs just makes you want to have a good time on hot town...."Boomerang Bang" is a classic. I still don't know how this CD wasn't a hit. I guess just not enough airplay. Lauren if you read this...we're waiting in Florida for a NEW cd...there are a lot of us here who love you. To anyone else...if you love "I Walk This Earth Alone" on the Great Expectations soundtrack...you will LOVE this cd. Her style cannot be duplicated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lauren Christy Should Breed!, July 30, 2000

With such talent one can only hope Lauren Christy will "Breed" thus providing us ever more talent. This is an amazing CD. While I can only wonder why the sudden change in music style (see her preview album) I soon stopped questions Lauren's motives after I listened to the entire album and realized Lauren is offering more than just ear candy, but some brain candy as well. She offers a wide variety of styles in "Breed" - from the glam-enlightenment of 'Magazine' to the sad truth of relationship disillusionment of 'Burn' - I was thoroughly impressed with this artist and recommend her to everyone! Thanks, Anna!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD to listen to, May 5, 2000
This review is from: Breed (Audio CD)
When I first head the song "I Want What I Want" during the carwash scene in "Wild Things", I just had to buy the CD. I bought the Wild Things soundtrack, but "I Want What I Want" wasn't on it but that was still a great album. I looked at the credits and saw this song was by Lauren Christy so I took my chance and bought the entire album since there wasn't a single. I am so glad I bought this album. It has the song I wanted and so much more! This a a great CD! All the songs are catchy with better lyrics than Britney Spears (even though I like her too). They should promote this album a little more, maybe even make a music video.

3.0 out of 5 stars A CD that spells change, but not for the better, August 14, 2000

For some unfathomable reason she seems to have toughened up her act, throwing her soft-spoken vocal style and gentle touch overboard in favor of an uncompromising, rock oriented approach in keeping with the likes of Alanis Morissette, K's Choice, Sass Jordan and The Cardigans and an all-new rough and rowdy guitar sound. At times she almost had me wondering whether or not i was actually listening to the same Lauren Christy.

Once past the initial shock though you may find that there are some pretty catchy songs on here, such as "Magazine", "25 back then" and "Boomerang bang", that the level of the songwriting is still well above average and that her lyrics are as original and intelligent as ever. This disc may take some trial runs before it starts to grow on you.

Still, "Breed" will never be as near and dear to my heart as its captivating forerunner. I fervently hope that a third album will see Lauren Christy return to her roots and stop trying to blend in with the happening rock crowd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet performer goes wild this time, September 5, 2004

Lauren Christy offer to us her second deliver where she rock this time, she goes wild, crazy and sexual, and still doesnt loose her natural charm, with lyrics full of sexual connotations such as the opening "breed" "let the rain come down on me" she claims for her desire of give ligth , album sleeve is also very suggestive she is all sorrounded by rabbits wich seems to explain her sensual feelings, "magazine" talks about a world full of consumers and fashion victims, "you make me laugh" is a song about sex in couples but with relaxed and funny ideas.
like this, the rest of the song are very personnal, but all of us can feel related in one or other sense, I hope Lauren release in the near future a third album , I dont want to die without taste again her fabulous songs

5.0 out of 5 stars completely different, but still great, October 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Breed (Audio CD)
i got this cd b/c i heard that lauren had a new one. i love the first and was anxious to get it. i was kind of afraid to listen to it though b/c i heard that it was completely different and i didnt want to be disappointed. finally my roommate told me to listen and im so glad that i did. this cd rocks! it is perfect for when youre in a great mood and equally good for a bad mood. my fave is "couldve been." there is no real reason why i like this one, i just love it. when i drive to work i blast it as loud as it can go. another fave is "magazine" just b/c it totally defines how far people go to fit in and how detrimental it can be. im so glad that i got this cd and i highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, June 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Breed (Audio CD)
"Breed" is a great CD. Rarely do you find a CD that you can pop in the player and listen to from beginning to end and then all over again, but this is one of them. The songs are all original; you don't get the feeling that Christy is trying to sound like someone else. For the most part bouncy and lively songs, they are all very catchy, and you'll probably wind up walking around the house singing a few of them. Track 10, entitled "The Night I Saved Peter Ustinov," is a narrative, something you don't find much of nowadays. It's very refreshing. The title track, "Breed," was featured on the soundtrack of the motion picture "Batman and Robin." I highly recommend this one; it's well worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lauren Christy on another CD..., November 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Breed (Audio CD)
I haven't listened to this CD, so I'm not going to try to review it... But in case no one else has mentioned this, she has song on the Great Expectations Soundtrack (the recent one with Gwyneth Paltrow). It's called "Walk This Earth Alone", and I think it rules supreme. I don't think I've seen it mentioned in track listings for her other CDs, so this is just FYI.

1.0 out of 5 stars DIFFERENT IS NOT BETTER, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Breed (Audio CD)
IF YOU LOVED LAUREN CHRISTY'S FIRST CD, THEN I SHOULD THINK YOU WILL BE GREATLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS RUBBISH. HER BEAUTIFUL VOICE AND MUSIC HAS BEEN REPLACED BY GROWLING GUITARS, AND A BAD-GIRL ROCKER PERSONA. SHE HAS ABSOLUTELY CHANGED HER WHOLE LOOK AND SOUND AND IT IS AWFUL. I WANT THE OLD LAUREN CHRISTY BACK. NO WONDER THIS ALBUM IS ON AMAZON FOR LESS THAN .50 CENTS. EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT IT (20 PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE UNITED STATES, MAYBE?)IS TRYING TO GET RID OF IT. YES, IT'S THAT BAD. HER FIRST ALBUM IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES OF ALL TIME. I HAVE LITERALLY WORN IT OUT PLAYING IT SO MUCH. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, AND PURCHASE THAT ALBUM. SHE NEVER RELEASED ANYTHING ELSE AFTER BREED. I GUESS IT WAS SUCH A FLOP THAT SHE WENT AND HID UNDER A ROCK SOMEWHERE.
