From Library Journal
Anyone contemplating breeding and/or showing dogs should read this book. Continuing in the style of their first book, The Road to Westminster ( LJ 12/90), the Freemans follow an imaginary dog and owner through breeding, whelping, and raising a litter and introduce them to the show circuit. The authors' style is friendly and lighthearted, but they are absolutely honest about the things that can, and will, go wrong. They are also realistic in their discussion of the dog show environment; the reader gets an honest idea of what to expect but is assured that it can be a fun activity for the whole family. The Freemans are experienced dog breeders and dog show veterans, and they offer specific information on each step in the breeding and showing program, including the importance of accurate record keeping and how much the canine hobby will cost. Breeding and Showing Purebred Dogs would be enjoyable reading for any dog lover and is recom mended for public libraries.
