A Breeze in the Willows celebrates the popular children's novel The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame's classic tale of Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad that has been savored by generations of parents and children since it was published in the 1920's. Faithful to its source of inspiration in both text and illustration, it brings back Wind's familiar concepts and characters and expands on them in a work that both pays homage to the source and deserves credit for its own merits. Allen Johnson, Jr. and illustrator Roger Michell are clearly fans of the original work, and have been so inspired by it that they sought to honor it with this sequel. All of the elements that made Wind so beloved come into play here. Humor, comedy, adventure and fables are seamlessly blended with messages about loving, helping, accepting, forgiving and sharing. There are 31 imaginative verses about life through the wood, down the open road, and along the riverbank, all enhanced by Michell's colorful, subtle, and witty illustrations. The real discovery about this work is that fans of Wind will be most enchanted, and those who discover Breeze first will be drawn to seek out the original.
