After meticulous research on the "perfect" case for my new Macbook, I finally found the Metrolite II. I wanted a bag that had a snug fit for my 13'' Macbook, and offered solid protection but without all the bulk. Most of what I found was either a single neoprene sleeve, that really just protects against scratches and a 'light' bump; or full size laptop cases with either no storage or way too many pockets.

And then I found the Metrolite II. It has amazing protection in a slim design, and a pocket that was made to fit the adapter, cords, and your standard Mac accessories. The top of the case has padded flaps that fold down which snug in the smaller Macbook, and give ample shock absorption (not found on many other laptops), plus keeps the zippers away from scratching your beautiful Macbook. You have extra room for magazines and papers, plus your iPod (with earbud port), pens, cell phone, etc. The case is super-light too, but amazingly rigid. Even the clips to the shoulder strap are set diagonally so the case doesn't swing around while you are walking with it.

I have never believed in buying uber-expensive notebook bags. In my experience, most bags are pretty much the same, but this one is well worth the money. There is a reason it's got 5 stars on Amazon.

First and foremost, the design is very thoughtful and capacious, despite the fact that it is slim. There's three separate pockets on the front, all of which are easily accessible. Additionally, within the one compartment there are placeholders for all of you travel essentials (pens, flash drives, an iPod) and also a passthrough for headphone cables, should you want to keep your iPod safely in the padded sleeve that is built into the outer-most compartment. Additionally, there's a velcro-secured top-loading compartment for quickly dropping keys or other odds and ends into the bag. And then there's a zippered compartment that can easily hold your AC adapter and then some.

At the back is a decent sized file that can hold a couple of magazines or some files. It's not huge, but generous enough for the essentials.

But where this bag really stands out is in the protective measures it includes. Inside the bag is a top-loading compartment for your laptop that is lined in soft nylon, with two faux-suede flaps at the top. This entire compartment can be removed via snaps, but I see no reason you'd need to do that. Within the compartment are spring-loaded side pads that hold your laptop snugly (I would imagine it would be equally adept at holding at 13.3 MacBook Pro, but it's super-snug with a 15.4 unit. All dimensions of your laptop are cushioned by a 1/2" thick pad (including under the zipper, where there are two fold out pieces that zip into place). Additionally, that same compartment has rigid walls beneath the pads that keep the shape of the bag as well as provide added protection against sharp blows.

The strap is quite comfortable and shaped to naturally ride your shoulder without any fidgeting. It's well padded, but not elastic as I've seen on other bags. Even fully loaded, it's totally comfortable. And finally, they positioned the clips for the strap to keep the bag from swinging or the strap from twisting.

All-in-all, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better bag for a MacBook Pro. I'm not sure how well a thicker laptop would do in this thing, but more my purposes, I can't imagine a more suitable bag.

Seriously, this thing is good enough that Apple should officially endorse it.
