10X Better than Boppy, easy to clean, use it standing up!,

The removable cover (zipper) makes this easy to clean (just make sure the velcro is stuck to itself when you wash it or it will stick to all your nice socks.)
My wife tried a boppy for the first month then got this, which she used continually for the next year. She has used it for all 3 of our children. The Boppy my sister loaned us was pretty flat after she used it for only one child. You can even use it standing up or when you move around since the strap goes around your back. The strap also provides back & lumbar support. The pocket is a nice touch (you put your Lansinoh, cell phone, baby nail clippers, etc in it) The only possible downside is it isn't that easy to put on with one hand (for example, if you are already cradling the baby) If you're price sensitive look around, there are often significant discounts for older colors. Very comfortable, but cumbersome to put on,

I used this for my baby's first month or so, while we were still getting the hang of breastfeeding. It was very comfortable and gave great support. I then stopped using it because I found it too awkward and time-consuming to put on and take off, especially while trying to hold the baby in one hand while he is wriggling and screaming for a meal. At those times, I wished I had a Boppy that I could just shove around my waist in a hurry.
My 7-year old daughter uses it to help her support the baby when she wants to hold him. It works GREAT for that, she can hold him without having to support all his weight with her arms. PROS: It is very comfortable to wear and supported both me and the baby very well. This is a quality product, very sturdy and well-made. The cover zips off for washing. CONS: It can be difficult to get the pillow around you and fastened when you are holding a baby in one hand. When your baby starts learning to sit up and you want something to support him on the floor, the Boppy works, but My Brest Friend doesn't.

Brest Friend vs Boppy,
By
This review is from: My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light Green (Baby Product)
I bought "My Brest Friend" because my "Boppy" was losing it firmness. MBF is definetly more firm and hasn't lost the firmness. It also supports your back. I like MBF better than the Boppy. My son however still prefers the boppy. I think that MBF is too firm for him. It keeps him awake so he does eat better, but it is not good for the late night feedings where we want him to go to sleep.

My Best Friend,

I think I practically wore this every day for the first 6 months of my child's life. It is awesome! It is great to sit up in bed and feed because it gives you back support. The child feels very supported as well. The cover is very easy to wash. I used it for a photo prop as well and to help her sit up when she was older. My only complaint is that I did not invent it!

Not essential, but highly recommended,

My mother-in-law found this product, and bought it for me because she thought it looked practical. It's a bit odd looking, but as it turns out, she was definitely on to something. This would definitely be a nice shower present if you're trying to support a friend's choice to breastfeed.
I have the non-Deluxe model, but am putting my review here to try to keep it with the rest. The non-Deluxe model differs in that the strap uses only a buckle, and not velcro. I don't find that a drawback, since opening velcro tends to wake sleeping babies. I'd prefer the pouch use a snap for that reason, but it is a nice place to keep a Clif bar or lanolin cream. This pillow is sized quite generously; I'm an American size 12, and can wear it on its smallest setting. The pillow's strap lets me put it on, walk across the room, and grab the baby without having too much to juggle. It's good that the cover is washable, but getting it on and off the foam is a pain, so I put a receiving blanket or towel over the pillow, which handles spitup and newborn diaper blowouts quite nicely. It also lets me wrap my son up and place him in his cradle with minimal disturbance. While this isn't an essential item, it is a really nice one. Using it has allowed me to nurse one-handed and use the computer with the other, which does a lot for sanity when dealing with a frequent eater. Because it's so firm and flat, my son can nurse, nap a bit, and then wake up and nurse again, all while I check email. The back support is quite comfy, too.

uh, not for me,

I used a boppy pillow with my first six yrs. ago. I couldn't find the old boppy so I decided to try the new nursing pillow.
It IS very supportive, it makes a shelf on your abdomen for your baby to lay on. But... -You can't safely hold baby while putting it on. -It's quite large and an odd shape, which makes it difficult to store. -It's pretty stiff and at times I feel like my baby is unsafe on the pillow (It feels like he's going to roll off). The Boppy... -Was more compact to store. -I could swing it on and off without putting down my baby. -It was multipurpose! I used it for nursing, tummy time, and for sitting baby in a reclined position, we had lots of fun with that boppy. I have to find my Boppy!

Nice concept.. but didnt work for me.,

This pillow is a wonderful concept.. but it just did not work for me. I have several cons..
My daughter had latching problems and for the first 6 weeks would only latch in the "football" position. So, it made this pillow impossible to use for the first six weeks. After that, she latched on normally and I again tried to use this pillow, but found that it put baby up to high for me. Maybe it was because I was used to just a traditional pillow, but I did not like this pillow. I nursed my daughter for 17 months.. and in my opinion.. save your money - a regular pillow works just as well if not better. Like I mentioned, wonderful concept, but I was one of the women who these pillows did not work for.. so something to consider before purchasing this pillow!

Nice concept but some design flaws,
By

I asked and received this as an item from my baby registry. My newborn is now just over 2 weeks old and while I'm able to use the pillow and it's working OK, there are some major design flaws with it.
1)For a postpartum belly this has to be on one of the more open settings. This means the back support becomes more of a left arm support and is not as secure. All the models on the website for this product show very thin and trim (ie not recently pregnant) people so I don't know quite what they were thinking here. 2) The strip of Velcro that is used to adjust the pillow is right up against either your clothes or skin and it's the "hook" side (ie the scratchy/rough side). I have to throw a cloth diaper over it to keep from irritating my skin and snagging my clothes. 3)This works much, much better for the left side than the right. The right side has the closure and Velcro adjuster on it and thereby missing needed support on that side. Especially when using this on a more open setting (for a larger waist in general or postpartum) there is no right arm support. I have to twist the pillow to the right to get enough support to feed on the right side and this is somewhat awkward and not as comfortable as it should be.

Nicely Designed Nursing Pillow.,
By
This review is from: My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light Green (Baby Product)
We recently had a baby boy and my wife bought a Boppy nursing pillow in anticipation of feeding him. She used the product for almost a month, but found it to be somewhat difficult. For example, it didn't fasten to her and moved around as the baby squirmed. Also, it was too soft and tended to sag across her lap. She was always stuffing small blankets under it to get a better more-even upper surface. In discussing the problems with a friend of hers, the friend reported that the My Brest Friend nursing pillow worked much better. Well, we ended up buying a second expensive nursing pillow and it, indeed, works much better. It's just one of the many things we've learned with our first child.
The My Brest Friend pillow straps securely and comfortably around the back and fastens firmly with an adjustable sturdy velcro strap. My wife reports that it is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and, in contrast to the Boppy, doesn't need constant readjustment. Furthermore, the pillow is somewhat stiff and doesn't sag across the lap even though our baby weighs almost 12 pounds. It's hard to judge, but the baby seems more comfortable resting on it too. The pillow has a convenient little pocket with a small velcro fastener. It can be used for a bib, and extra bottle, or use your imagination. It's a nicely designed piece of equipment. Our pillow is exactly the same as this illustrated product, except that it is light blue. Well, who cares about the color? Either one would be OK with us and other covers are available. All in all, when it comes to choosing a nursing pillow, the My Brest Friend is superior. Gary Peterson

I Love My Brest Friend,
By
This review is from: My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light Green (Baby Product)
I have been using the My Brest Friend every day for the past 11 months. I really love it. When my baby was small, he always fell asleep while eating. The large firm surface made it easy to let him take a nap right on my lap while I used my laptop, ate a snack, or read a book. Since it straps around my waist, it's easy to get up and lift him into his crib without having to fuss with a pillow. The strap also makes it easy to get ready to nurse because I can strap it on before I pick him up.
The fabric is very soft. I put it in the dryer when I wash it and it has done fine. I always take it on and off using the clip. I only use the velcro part when I need to adjust the size. The last time I washed the cover, I noticed that the foam was ripping where the back joins the main pillow. I guess after 11 months of taking it on and off, it wore out. But since the cover is there, I don't even notice that it's messed up. I had no problem nursing using a football hold with the My Brest Friend. I just turn the pillow to my side and nurse as usual. The surface of the pillow is too small for my son to fit his entire body on now that he's getting so big, but he doesn't seem to mind. He just puts his legs somewhere else! Another use that I've found for the My Brest Friend is using it as a lap desk for my laptop. I can comfortable use my laptop and not have to worry about the pillow blocking the fan because the foam is firm. |
