5.0 out of 5 stars Bretford Mobile Computer Workstation Cart, June 13, 2011
By
Jaime Heras (YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bretford EC4000FF-GM All-In-One Computer Workstation (Electronics)
This is a very rugged and well made industrial cart. It features a slide out keyboard/mouse tray, a very spacious bottom CPU shelf, and a cable box for storage of the power and connection cables.

The slides for the keyboard shelf are high quality, operate very smoothly, and when the tray is fully pushed in out of the way, have a "locking" detent to prevent the tray from sliding out during travel. The tray can be installed at one of three height levels depending on your preference. If after assembly, you decide to move the tray to a different height, it is easy to relocate it.

The bottom CPU shelf is more than wide enough to accommodate, side by side, both my full size computer and my printer with room to spare. The cart also comes with adjustable CPU brackets to keep the CPU in place, and can be installed on either the right or left side of the bottom shelf. They also include some self stick Velcro strips to attach your CPU to the brackets. The shelf is 35.25 inches wide, and even after installing the CPU brackets, I still had 22 inches for my printer. The shelf has 24 inches of total depth front to back. However, depending on how you choose to install the cable box, you may end up with a depth of only 19.5 inches, which in my case was still enough room for my full size tower with rear attached cables. The clearance height of the bottom shelf depends on where you install the keyboard shelf, and leaves you a height of 17, 19 or 21 inches.

The cable box is designed to fit between the rear legs and can be installed in several positions. It can also be installed in either a fixed position or in an adjustable height position. Mine came with a six outlet power strip, however the power strip may not be included with some model numbers.

The cart was easy to assemble and the parts fit together well. You'll need a Phillips screw driver and a pair of pliers. They include a "wrench" for tightening two of the hardware sizes. I had a little trouble fitting the cable box between the rear legs. It's a very tight fit. I guess that's why they recommend you have a rubber mallet as part of your assembly tools.

My only negative is that the assembly instructions could be a little better. For instance, the slides for the keyboard tray come apart (as most do). Half is attached to the cart, and half is attached to the tray. You need to take the slides apart to attach them to their respective parts, but the instructions don't tell you how to do that. Fortunately for me, because of experience, I knew that the little black lever on the side of the slide, when extended, is for the purpose of separating the two halves of the slide.

All in all, if you're looking for a rugged, mobile, utilitarian computer cart that doesn't take up a lot of space, this is a good choice.
