More About the Author

Brett Manning was born on April 27, 1966 in Grants Pass, Oregon. At a young age his family moved to Ogden, Utah where he spent most of his childhood and young adult years. At the age of 19, Brett began attending college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he studied musical theatre and dance. It was there that Brett soon realized his voice was lacking the vocal range and power that he needed to land those leading roles that he had so long desired.

Frustrated by this fact, in desperation to learn how to sing better, Brett started taking voice lessons from a few local voice teachers. Even so, to his dismay, Brett saw very little progress after taking countless vocal lessons. Discouraged, but not deterred, Brett was more determined than ever to improve his singing voice. It was for this reason that he began his quest for knowledge researching how the voice truly works.

Brett spent the next few years working with some of the world's top voice teacher's, researching as many vocal theories as possible. His knowledge and understanding the voice grew increasingly and not only ignited his passion for teaching, it inspired him to develop his own vocal training method of priceless vocal techniques that finally produce the results that he had so long desired. This new found knowledge ultimately inspired his passion to teach other singers the voice methods which had taken him years to discover so that they could avoid the frustration which he had experienced in learning how to developing his own voice.

In 1992, Brett opened his first vocal training studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was after only a few short years of teaching that Brett became the most sought after voice coach in the region, mostly because of the incredible results his students experienced in just a short period of time. Brett's teaching career stimulated his continual pursuit of knowledge of the singing voice, and through years of research and experimentation, he developed many of his own new vocal exercises and voice techniques. To contain his vast knowledge of the voice, Brett began writing down the script that would eventually become the world's most successful vocal training course, The Singing Success Program. And as they say, "The rest is History'

In 1997 Brett moved his family and vocal training studio to Nashville, TN where he soon began to teach many of today's top Artists. Brett has since become known as a master teacher and is one of the world's most sought after vocal coaches, largely because of his uncanny ability to "see with his ears," and instantly diagnose and correct the problems in a singer's voice.
WOW, This was never hard. Your exercises make my voice feel like its floating.

Brett Manning founded, and currently teaches at, Nashville's world-famous Brett Manning Studios, along with his many personally trained and certified associate vocal coaches. Brett Manning Studios works with singers of all musical genres, experience, or skill. In 2009 Brett was a Judge on the CMT music television reality show, "Can You Duet."

Brett has worked with recording artists from Capitol, Columbia, Atlantic, Interscope, Dreamworks, Lyric Street, MCA, Epic/Sony, KMG, Word, Embassy, Gotee Records, as well as countless independent record labels. He has also worked with the casts of Broadway productions of Les Miserables and Jekyll and Hyde, as well as the Broadway tour of Elton John's Aida.

His client list contains winners of the world's most prestigious vocal awards, including the Doves, the CMA Awards, and the GRAMMYS®. Despite having an incredible five octave range himself, Brett continues to claim "my students eventually out-sing me!" Brett has a unique perspective on the novice singer, "beginning students have the unique opportunity to build their voice free of any bad habits." In fact, it was his love for amateur singers that, after a decade of teaching private lessons, inspired Brett to begin offering vocal seminars and workshops around the nation. Audience participants are awestruck when, often in less than an hour, Brett adds a full octave to their usable range. It's something you simply must see to believe! http://www.singingsuccess.com/about-brett-manning

Brett is known for his fun, encouraging demonstrations, showing how even "brand new" singers can experience immediate improvement in the range, ease, and quality of their voice.

Unwilling to give up on his passion for teaching singers of every type, regardless of their skill level, geographical location, or professional aspirations, Brett has created a number of voice training programs to make his incredible teaching methods available to everyone.

I'm glad I bought the set, so I gave it 5 stars.

The exercises can probably be learned for free in many places, but they are systematized well and good to train along with in this program.

I'm not trying to sell this program, I'm just saying that I think it's good and will help as long as the dedication is there.

If I'm going to be honest about this review, I must be completely, and brutally honest. My initial reaction when first reading about the Singing Success program was "There is no way I would pay $199.00 for a book and some vocal training Cds." So, when I received my package, I was disappointed to learn that the Singing Success system consisted of a book with less than 20 pages, with 12 CDs and a video tape...But, soon changed my opinion.

As I read the booklet, I thought to myself, "Wow. There is a lot of information in so few pages. I like it; concise, and informative. Maybe there is more to this program than I`m giving credit." Brett explained the simple principle of how it is physically possible to extend your range with ease. This technique is unknown to most vocal coaches, even though it is a simple physical fact. The booklet also explains other vocal related topics, such as, the vocal registers, the resonators of the body, correct breathing technique, nutrition and health, vocal terminology, correct vowel patterns, and presents a singer's checklist, for understanding your instrument, both physically, emotionally, and mentally...And that's just 16 pages! (Including the Intro and credits)

The video is a one on one interview with Brett. Brett explains his technique and shows examples through live footage of some of his students. (I forgot to mention that Brett had said in the interview that the reason he kept the book so short was because research showed that people preferred to be taught voice through video and audio as opposed to reading. He felt he could help people to better understand through 12 CDs as opposed to 200 pages.)

These students were some of the most amazing singers I have ever heard.

I bought Brett Manning's Singing Success a few months ago and have been using it almost daily since. It is a great program. However, there are many times during the exercises that Brett says something like, "Exercise number 3 is a lip roll on a long octave..." Then, he moves on to Exercise number 4 without doing number 3! There's no explanation saying go back and play track one, substituting the lip roll for the tongue trill (or whatever) or suggesting that the singer do this exercise on their own, etc.

The exercises are very helpful. I just don't get why they're not all recorded completely on the CDs. The DVD and workbook aren't terribly useful, but the CDs are invaluable, so I don't care about the other stuff.

As a side note, I was a bit frustrated reading reviews on here that were written by students of Brett Manning, not users of this product. Do you get royalty checks or a discount on your lessons for plugging him as a vocal coach without specifically reviewing the product? As an actual user of the product (and someone who has never met Brett Manning), I highly recommend "Singing Success".

I am not a professional singer. I haven't taken private lessons from Brett. In fact, I did take private lessons when I was 18 years old. Over 30 years ago! I couldn't hack it taking classical voice lessons so I just gave up. I recorded myself singing a song before I started these lessons and then recorded myself after doing this program for five weeks. What an amazing difference! Even with my 49-year-old vocal chords! It makes me wish this product had been around 30 years ago. I might be a world-famous singer today! (With what if's anything is possible, right?)

So even if all you do is get together with friends for karaoke this program is worth every cent! People have been amazed at the improvement in my singing.

I have been recommending this program to everyone I know who likes to sing.

The only negative about this program is that they urge you to write to Brett with questions. I've never had a question answered so I stopped writing.

I had used Set Your Voice Free (Roger Love), Singing for The Stars (Seth Riggs), and Jeffery Allen's Secrets of Singing among others. For two years I studied with those and still sounded like I did when I started but only louder and more confident :) They are good programs but they didn't answer my burning questions about how to sing like my favorites professional artists. I didn't have that shining quality to my voice when I sang high, and had no idea how to get it.

I didn't buy Singing Success at first because it was so much money, but after two years of frustration I finally gave in. The first two CDs answered ALL my questions about singing (they are just explanations and intros anyway). I had no idea what head voice was as people kept talking about it. I could sing up to an E or F above middle C MAYBE and straining.

After working for 3 months with Brett's program (April 2004 to June 2004) I made a recording of Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up". You can find it on my website (Jesse Nemitz in yahoo - no urls allowed sorry) I couldn't believe how much I had grown just while I was listening to it for the first time after the initial recording. I can now say, after one year of working through Brett's program, I can sing through almost 4 octaves (Baritone G through E above high male high C in full voice and above up through head and whistle voice to E above soprano high C). I would never use those extra notes but it is cool to know I'm relaxed enough to be able to sing them. Most importantly, I now know exactly how to use my voice and how to train it to perfection. Essentially, singing success enables you to become your OWN teacher that is custom fit to your OWN voice.
