Format: Mass Market Paperback
Like the French popsong by Michel Sardou : "(Elle court, elle court) la maladie d'amour" Lepeyre describes love as an incurrable epidemic illness. In a transparant style the author writes about the passionate, capricious love affair hitting a "greyish mouse" who in fact cannot deal with it. Long senseless drives in a car. Dominating mother, powerless father.
And - not unimportant - another lover in London who has an affair with Nora the object of desire by both men. A tale of two cities Paris and London which could have a very good Maurice Pialat movie if he was still among us. ("A nous ces petites Anglaises", well one Anglaise)
It is intrigiung Nora, la Anglaise neither becomes attractive or intriguing. You even feel to hate her with her indesive behaviour and impossible ambitions, lacking the needed talents to become an actress.
So it must be something else which is overwhelming the main characters, Bleriot and Murphy: a force too powerful, maybe coming from a parallel universum as the writer seems to conclude.
A novel which requires slow, attentive reading, which could be a little bit more "basic" in its comparisons. And the end is surprising but could be less transparant.
