Better than most of the others, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Breville TG890TXL 1500-Watt Gourmet Health Grill (Kitchen)
The Breville is very well built. It has an adjustable hinge and temp control. I have a few of the other well known contact grills- but this one actually gets hot enough to grill (not steam). It is very fast and produces get grill marks. You won't be disappointed

Great grill -- cleanup takes time, March 1, 2005
This review is from: Breville TG890TXL 1500-Watt Gourmet Health Grill (Kitchen)
This grill heats up quickly, and sears the meat beautifully. It has adjustable height and temperature controls, which makes it very versatile for all types of veggies, sandwiches and meats. My only complaint is that the grill plates aren't removable for easier cleaning. It took less than two minutes to cook the steaks to perfection; however, it took 10 minutes plus to thoroughly clean the grease from between the depressions on the lower grill plate. The top plate was much easier to clean because the depressions are very shallow. So, if you don't mind the cleanup, this is a great indoor grill.

Sorry George!, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Breville TG890TXL 1500-Watt Gourmet Health Grill (Kitchen)
After my GF grill stopped getting hot, I contemplated buying the Next Grilleration model, but after reading all the reviews, it didn't seem like such a good buy. I have a Breville Juicer that I really like and searched to see if they also made indoor grills. I was delighted to find that they did!
It really gets hotter than most of the other popular grills and is very well constructed. It's heavy and doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. I like the adjustable hinge (the end to squished grilled cheese sandwiches), the adjustable feet (no more runaway sausage links), and the temperature control (sandwiches and steaks were not meant to be cooked at the same temp).
The grill heats up quickly and really puts a good sear on steak [steak must be wiped dry if using marinade]. It would be nice if the grill plates were removable, but it really isn't a hassle to clean. I use the plastic scraper that comes with it right after I take the food off, let the grill cool down a bit and wipe it down with a sponge.
The grill looks good enough to be stored on the counter if you have the space, if not it can be stored in an upright position which is really nice if space is limited. Just lock it and set it somewhere out of the way. I keep mine stored on a pantry shelf in the upright position.
