We bought this toaster two weeks ago and finally decided to return it after trying and failing to get the correct settings. Quite frustrating in the mornings when your bread is either not even browned or burnt black.

I spent a summer working for an Irish Bread Company, where I baked traditional large, round loaves, so when my old toaster died (in a terrible sink cleaning accident), I was excited to find one that could handle my uber long slices of bread, and toast them to perfection. I spent quite some time searching, and finally found this masterpiece, which can do exactly what a toaster was meant to do, toast bread. The dial doesn't just look fancy, it has true purpose. Until your used to the strength of the settings, you can adjust the time that your heating said target (by that I mean the time remaining, as when you change numbers to increase/decrease cook time, it doesn't reset the internal clock). You can also lift the tab to inspect your bread while it is still being heated, so as to not interrupt the cooking cycle. The stainless steel casing does get noticeably hot while in use for multiple long sessions (think bagels for 6-8 people), so if you have lots of kids or guests over frequently, supervision to avoid burns might be a good plan. While I have read some complaints that this toaster is either too hot or not hot enough, I've had no such issues. 'Normal' bread cooks quickly on a 3 to a nice golden brown, and the more dense Irish soda breads can take up to a 7 to cook, with other breads finding their happy place somewhere in between. Overall, this is a perfect toaster that does its job beautifully and looks good doing it.

Far better than the Russell Hobbs it replaced,

Breville builds small kitchen appliances the way they used to be built -- simple and reliable. The price is worth it. I was gifted a Breville panini maker and this toaster is the second Breville product I am very pleased to own. I've had the toaster for about years and it has already outlasted other expensive brands (e.g., Russell Hobbs). I will buy Breville appliances again but I know I won't need another toaster for years.
