This is exactly what I have been looking for. the dial is big enough for an old guy like me (with poor close up vision) to read and the extra long probe goes almost to the bottom of my brew kettle and still stays clipped to the side of the pot. Shipping was done in a reasonable amount of time. All in all, nothing to complain about. I'm off to start another IPA.

Does what it is supposed to. I use this for homebrewing, and it is very responsive. The clip on the body is useful, and the long stem is ideal for larger batches.

Nothing wrong with the thermometer itself but it is not calibrated and goes out of calibration easily. Do yourself a favor and buy a digital one that can be calibrated in a bowl of ice water at 32 degrees. You will never use an analog type one again.

I needed to get away from my glass thermometer when brewing and this thermometer is perfect for my system. I put it in boiling water to calibrate and it read 210 on the nose (I'm at a bit of elevation, so the boiling point is lower). It seems sturdy and well made and the numbers are easy to read.

I use this for brewing. This is great because it it requires no batterries, is long enough to reach the liquid at any level, and has the full range of temperatures that I need.

I use this thermometer on my 10 gal Hot Liquor Tank for my Strike/Sparge water. It's relative accurate, it's relatively cheap, and it works. Make sure your kettle is tall enough to take this baby before you buy.

Actually, this thing is awesome when you consider that the alternative is drilling yet another dang hole through ANOTHER S/S kettle for a side-mounted thermometer. With this guy here, I don't need to modify the stock pot, I just use this clip-on thermometer and a 1-qt Pyrex measuring cup (measuring quart?) for my dough-in proteolytic/saccarification rests.

Someone else said it fogged up at 212 F. I didn't have this problem, but I don't see how it matters, seeing as though the laws of physics dictate that the temperature of liquid H2O can never exceed the boiling point (and that only boiling water is generally ever added for subsequent step infusions anyhow).

Bought this hoping to use with my homebrew mash tun and brew kettle. It turned out to be extremely inaccurate with swings in both higher and lower directions. It read 218 degrees F for boiling which is 6 degrees higher than it should be. I then checked it during cool down of the wort against 2 other thermometers, one a simple homebrew floating thermometer and the other a digital kitchen variety, it was about 4 degrees lower than the other 2 in the same spot of the wort, but fluctuated from 5 to 3 below. Disappointed in this thermometer especially because of the other good reviews. Too bad I used it on my mash before I realized how inaccurate it was, which threw off my efficiency a lot and may have ruined a batch. Don't waste your time.
