This review is from: Breyer My Dream Horse Customizing Arabian (Toy)
Most young collectors feel the urge to customize a model horse at some point. The problem with this is that not only do they often lack appropriate paints and instructions but they also don't have a properly prepped base to start on. Painting a Breyer that hasn't been prepped will cause the final paint job to chip off in many cases since Breyers are sealed at the factory to protect their finish.
While this kit is basic it offers all a beginner needs to introduce them to customizing a model horse. The prepped model is the most important part of the kit. The acrylic paints that are premixed are a nice touch for a child who is inexperienced with mixing paint colors (all too common with public schools cutting back art programs more and more). A child who is more comfortable with painting can still express themselves by blending new colors but an adult should stand by to assure that the process isn't too wasteful as Breyer hasn't supplied an excess amount of paint in this case. There is absolutely no reason why this kit couldn't be supplemented with an inexpensive acrylic kit meant for childrens' craft projects. The sky is the limit. The mohair offers an incredible touch of realism and adds a more finished and polished look to the model. The glue provided will be difficult to work with so the mohair must be added in small locks and may require touch ups after the initial applications dries. Your child will not only learn about the art of painting a three dimensional model but they will also take away valuable knowledge on horse colors and learn terminology and some equine anatomy. This is a great starter kit for curious horse lovers and Breyer collectors. They will have a creation of their very own to show to family and friends.

Dream Horse Kit,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Breyer My Dream Horse Customizing Arabian (Toy)
Like all breyer customizing kits, they are extremely complicated. Don't be fooled by the instruction booklet and examples that make this look oh-so-easy.The mohair is almost impossible to put on and NEVER try to mix the paints and try to make a new color unless you are experienced and have practiced(you'll end up with a big splattered on paint job). I'm not trying to say that this set is bad in anyway, but that it is very hard and will probably get the most use and best results if an adult or child 12 and up is using it.

This kit was a lot of fun once I got the hang of the painting techniques. I photo show my model horses, and this was the first time I was able to customize my own model. I reccomend this kit for anyone who loves horse and art.
