From Library Journal

Brian Jones, founder of the Rolling Stones, died in a mysterious swimming pool accident in 1969. Four years earli er, Fitzgerald, a starry-eyed 17-year- old and a Guinness family heiras the reader is frequently remindedmet Jones. His reminiscences document the Stones' inner tensions, which were fu eled by the competition between Jones and Mick Jagger, who is pictured as the villain of the piece. Jones, by contrast, is portrayed as sensitive, creative, and unappreciated, while his notorious abuse of women and drugs is glossed over. Much of the narrative is more gossipy than revealing, although the ac counts of the Stones' performances are first-rate. Jones's demise, on the heels of his ouster from the band, provides Fitzgerald an opportunity to hint darkly at a murder conspiracy that seems far fetched at this late date. A more satisfy ing and comprehensive treatment is Mandy Aftel's Death of a Rolling Stone ( LJ 9/1/82). Paul G. Feehan, Univ. of Miami Lib., Coral Gables

1.0 out of 5 stars Cleverly written but not true., February 2, 1999
This review is from: Brian Jones : The Inside Story of the Original Rolling Stone (Hardcover)
Nicholas Fitzgerald's biography about the founder and musical genius of The Rolling Stones was certainly a page turner but one has to question the truth to his story. Fitzgerald, a Guiness heir, claimed to have been close friends to Brian Jones during height of Stonesmania in the mid 60's, to his accidental drowning, or should I say murder, in July 1969. For a person who was as close to Brian Jones as Fitzgerald claims, one has to wonder why his name is mentioned in no other books written about the star or books about The Rolling Stones. People who were close to Brian Jones and the Stones during this time such as former lovers Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg and close personal friends have never mentioned or heard of Fitzgerald. The book was cleverly written but not true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brian Jones was my FAVORATE Rolling Stone!!!, September 23, 2008

This review is from: Brian Jones : The Inside Story of the Original Rolling Stone (Hardcover)
Unlike the other reviewer, I HAVE heard of Fitzgerald and believe his account. Who doesn't know , who has researched this subject at all that Guiness Heir Tara Browne, who "blew his mind out in a car", was a close friend of Brian's? So you consider it odd that the other Guiness heir knew him as well?
From my rather exhaustive research on this subject I have seen that Anita Pallenberg, big strapping girl that she was , claimed little bitty Brian "beat" her. Funny thing is Brian was the one who ended up with the broken ribs!
Mick Jagger, the devil himself . cast as a villian? Say it ain't so!
History is told by the survivors and Jagger and Richards and their drug-addled women have done all they could to expunge Brian Jones' legacy from the books!
Just hasn't worked!
Read what Pete Townsend has said about how Jagger/Richards treated Brian, and what Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman have to say.
I like the book and dropped in here to buy another copy!
