Great Debut,
By Emily (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brian Mccomas (Audio CD)
A few weeks ago, I went to one of Brian's shows. I'd heard '99.9% Sure' on the radio, but I didn't even know his name going into that night. After hearing him sing about 9 or 10 songs from his album, I started counting down the days until it's release date. I bought it the day it came out, and it's great. His seems to change his voice on some of the tunes, but the lyrics and music are strong enough to back up his changes. There are some super-catchy songs on the album, and if you like '99.9% Sure', you might end up liking those tracks even more. He's strong on the ballads, too. Standouts are 'Come With Me', 'Night Disappear With You', 'I Could Never Love You Enough', and 'You'd Never Said Goodbye', though really, the entire album is great. It's one that can be listened to all the way through, a rarity these days.

The catchy debut single from Brian McComas instantly became my favorite song of 2003 when I heard it first some 4 months ago. After eagerly waiting an eternity for his CD to be released, I expected it to be the best thing I've ever heard. Well unfortunately, it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, this is a quality CD, I was just expecting brilliance. "Come With Me" is as close to brilliance as this disc comes. A smooth flowing chorus makes for an awesome chilling song. "Sixteen Again" is a cool slow song where Brian talks to a deceased friend saying that if he was sixteen again, he would not have let him drive drunk. "I Could Never Love You Enough" is a typical country ballad, but one of the better songs on the CD. The CD ends with "I'll Always Be There For You", a song with a great story. In all, it is a solid, not spectacular, but solid debut CD from McComas.

Brian McComas is one of the best new talents of 2003!,
This review is from: Brian Mccomas (Audio CD)
A lot of stars appeared this year. Many of them were good. Only a handful were great. Brian McComas belongs in this latter group.I originally thought he was a fake. His first single, "99.9% Sure", was a bit pop-ish. His follow up, "You're In My Head", is a catchy sing-along with radio-friendliness written all over it (not that that's really a bad thing). It was this last song that pursuaded me to buy the album. And I enjoyed every second I spent listening to it! McComas's songwriting is superb. Though he only wrote four tracks, you can tell that he has more than a touch of the writer's gift. "Baby Let Me Be Your Man," the best tune on here he penned, is soft and catchy, full of innocent longing and need. The reminiscent "Never Meant a Thing," "You'd Have Never Said Goodbye," and "Sixteen Again" (which barely avoids cliche-dom), add to McComas's worldly-wise viewpoint. The catchy "99.9% Sure", "You're In My Head," "Night Disappear With You," "Straight to You," and the sexy "Come With Me" display love of fun, upbeat songs. You'll sing along...even if you're a die-hard traditionalist! "I Could Never Love You Enough" has a cheesey title, but the song itself, though about an original topic (eternal love) is new, powerful, and original. The album's last track, "I'll Always Be There For You," is a poignant look at a woman's unplanned (and possibly teenage) pregnancy, and the older brother who stands by her side. A moving, touching, and completely enjoyable song. Unlike many recent debuts, Brian McComas's self-titled album does not blend into the mainstream-Nashville scene. Instead, it stands apart, a landmark on an otherwise flat terrain. Brian McComas is a new talent in Nashville; his writing and his soft, affecting voice will carry him far. With this CD, you can honestly say you were there at the birth of a great and long career.

Best New Artist,
By A Customer
This review is from: Brian Mccomas (Audio CD)
This CD is the best I've heard from a new artist ever. I have had it for a while now and I can't stop listening to it. Almost every song on the CD is a hit in my mind. My personal favorite would have to be I can never love you enough. It's a very good song and it has a lot of truth to it. Brian is also very good in concert.

I got this CD at a concert where he was the opening act for Rascal Flatts. I'd been wanting to get the CD but wasn't sure about all the songs. You know, you end up with a CD because of a particular song, but then the rest of the CD is a bust. This CD isn't like that. I heard him perform and I loved every song he did, so I had to get the CD. After the show, I was able to meet him and he autographed the CD for me. He is really nice and has a great voice. I love every single song on this CD.

I am a big country fan, and from the first time I heard his song, "99.9% Sure", I knew I'd be buying! It deserves 5 stars, he is a very talented singer! My cat will even lay ontop of my radio when one of Brian McComas' songs come on, or when I put the cd in. (note-My cat doesn't do this with any other artist) I am for certain that Brian will have a good career in the future also. I agree that this is one of the best albums of '03, it'll always be reliable on those long car rides, or as a tune to help you fall asleep.

11 great songs,

I've bought a whole lot of albums in my life but I have only liked a few well enough to buy a second copy for my car or to give as gifts, I have done both with Brian McComas' debut CD, "Brian McComas".The album has 11 really good songs by 17 songwriters including McComas. (I have a hard time understanding how three people write one song but they do.) The singles from the album "99.9% Sure" and "You're in My Head" are a little bit rock and roll and "You'd Have Never Said Goodbye" (my personal favorite) is pure country. As with most country albums, there is tragedy. You'd have to be missing a heart, not to be touched by "Sixteen Again" and "I'll Always be There for You" which is about a guy's baby sister who's "in trouble". You'd pretty much have to be without a pulse not to feel something listening to "Come with Me" or "Baby Let Me Be Your Man" which pretty much explain how a guy's baby sister and big sister and auntie get in trouble. I like Mc Comas' voice, he's not Pavarotti or even Vince Gill but he's got a very good voice for rock and country and delivers each song just about perfectly. There is great expression in all the songs. Depending on the song you can hear the sadness or the joy in the performance. I've asked my local country music station to play some of the songs that haven't been released as singles and they say they can't. They say the record companies tell them what they have to play. (How nuts is that!) So if you want hear the rest of this terrific album ,you should buy it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I bought this cd for the song "You're in my head" because it was just a fun song and easy to sing along with. What I got was one of the best country albums of the year. His song "Baby let me be your man" if by far the best song on the album. It is so good I cannot believe this wasn't a number one hit for him, or that it wan't released as a single. If you are looking for a great cd this is it, I have recommended this one to several friends who have also loved it.
