4.0 out of 5 stars Fancy Nancy Boardgame
This game is fun. Great colors and artwork. A little hard to follow for young kids at first but ok once you get the hang of it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Confusing, irrelevant, uninteresting
I like the Fancy Nancy concept as the books introduce new words into kids' vocabulary. But this game is just a bit too confusing for younger children (under 5) and not very interesting for those much older. The whole idea is to roll the die to flip all 5 color coded flaps and reveal a 'fancy' bedroom. So, the underlying value isn't new vocabulary here (a missed...

So, the underlying value isn't new vocabulary here (a missed opportunity)- but rather consumerism. However, before you can lift a flap, first you need to put down one kind of card, then wait your turn again, so you can put down another kind of card (if you have it), before you can roll the die. If you don't have the right card- there's nothing to do. Also, there are cards that allow one child to stop another child from ever getting to the point where you can place down an 'accessorize' card and get to roll the die and lift a flap (the 'oops' card), which is just asking for trouble with young kids. Sometimes you end up with only 'Ooops' cards in your hand and you have no choice but to kill another kid's hand by giving them the 'oops'.

I really thought this was a poorly thought out game- but perhaps at 45, I'm just no fun. However, my 5 year old daughter didn't think much of it either. To add to that, the directions are a bit confusing.

Personally, I would change the rules of the game to simplify things. Just pick a card, if you get the right card you get to roll and lift a flap. If not, next kid's turn. Make up your own rules and have fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, January 21, 2010

This toy is not only confusing (as other reviewers indicate) but also poorly made. The spinner broke before even one use. When I wrote to the manufacturer (Briarpatch), they indicated they would be happy to replace the broken piece FOR A FEE. Outrageous. Buy your child a game that is well made and is backed by the maker. Bottom line--Stay away from Briarpatch toys.

1.0 out of 5 stars Directions are too confusing, December 28, 2009

I was very excited to get this game for my daughter, who loves Fancy Nancy. I wish that I had read the reviews first.

The concept is cute, but the execution is very poor. The directions are very confusing - at one point it tells you to have your cards face down, and another time it tells you to have them in your hand. Another time it tells you to put "Oops" card on someone's pile. What? We were supposed to have a pile of cards?

We resorted to throwing out the cards, and just spinning the spinner until we've flipped down all of the colors. As soon as she gets bored with that, the game is going to Goodwill.

If you are thinking about this game you should pass. It's boring and pointless. The directions are confusing and the game has no educational or entertaining value. My daughter's version came with a spinner instead of the dice but the point is still the same. Lay down a card, spin and flip the corresponding colored flap. Love the Fancy Nancy books-hate the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids loved this one, December 22, 2010

I little bit of strategy involved so it is a bit harder for a young player to catch on (like a 3-4 year old).My 4 year old got it fine, some of her friends did not understand it.

My 4 and 6 year old love this one. We did not care for Fancy Nancy Going PLaces game at all, but this one is a 5 star!!!

This game looks really cute but the game rules are silly and difficult for my kids to understand. The fun factor is lost. We've had this game for a year but I'm giving it away. Too bad.

Another boring briarpatch game. We have this and the Thomas the tank one, both are confusing, boring and pointless. After my 4 year old got this game as a present, we played it once and then I gave her some scissors to cut it up. that was the most fun possible with this game.
