About the Author

Since his calling several years ago, “The Reverend” Brendan Powell Smith has illustrated more than two hundred stories from the Bible with LEGO bricks on his popular Web site www.thebricktestament.com. Smith lives in the wilderness of the San Francisco Bay Area and subsists on a diet of locusts, wild honey, and Thai food. Though he has yet to part any great seas (though not for lack of trying), Smith has occasionally been spotted talking with bushes and is rumored to be stockpiling frogs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Creative Book that's Great for Kids and Adults, May 28, 2005
This review is from: The Brick Testament: The Ten Commandments (Hardcover)
This is another great book by the creator of the wonderfully creative website, The Brick Testament. If you've read the previous Brick Testament books, or even if you haven't you will absolutely love this one. It's great for kids - bundle this book with a box of Lego for a great gift - as well as adults.

This book depicts many of the well known stories of the Bible involving Moses. These stories are great for kids; I have much fondness of my mother telling me her favorite Bible story as a child - Moses' mother and sister protect him by floating him in a reed basket on the Nile. Smith is obviously very imaginative in translating the Bible to Lego, and is even able to render effectively all ten plagues of Egypt. Frogs, beetles, locusts - you name it!

One of my favorite things about this book is extremely subtle. Moses ages from a baby to an old man in the course of this book. It's fun to go through the book and see how this occurs little by little in Lego - one step is just the addition of bushy old man eyebrows!

5.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly excellent usage of Legos, March 3, 2006
This review is from: The Brick Testament: The Ten Commandments (Hardcover)
If you haven't figured it out yet, this product is highly critical of Christianity. However, everything in it is essentially just stuff in the Bible, anyway, only depicted in Lego form (the fact that at least a few Christians take offense to it despite this is very telling...) I highly recommend it to anyone who is in the mood for a good laugh and has a problem with the religious fundamentalism in the US these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious..., May 11, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Brick Testament: The Ten Commandments (Hardcover)
...but even funnier than the Reverents books are the reviewers who only rated his books one star. Those sad souls apparantly never read their bible. The funniest side of this whole Brick Testament series is the fact that the text is straight from the bible - no glossing over sex, violence and absurdity. Read it, laugh at it and laugh at yourself for thinking that the Bible is about peace, love and understanding. It is about sex, violence and suppression of women, slaves and anybody who does not belong to your little religious group. No wonder it's been such a bestseller...
