Devlin left his oncology practice in American to return to Australia upon his father's and then his brother's death. He felt he couldn't leave his mother, nor the community in which his father was the only physician. So he moved back into the house that had seen generations of O'Halloran's as doctors. Emma's not sure of her future but she feels it's time for her to meet her husband's family and let them know that she was with him the night he died. Traveling to Australia from England in her seventh month of pregnancy is risky and she only has a matter of days before she'll be restricted from flying all together. So off she goes, but a tragic accident threatens her child and forces her to stay. And Emma's remarkable spirit reaches out to a wounded community and starts the road to healing.

Oh my! I couldn't put this one down until I read the last page! Although only 187 pages, this didn't read short at all. There were no aspects of the story lacking because of length. This is my very first by Marion Lennox and I will most definitely be looking for others! Her characters are so well defined you feel yourself in them. This is a heart wrenching and then heart warming story of loss and then joy of loving and living. I loved every word!

I'm so glad I picked this up. I've never read a book by Marion Lennox and the only other Medicals I've read were the ones from Ms. Gates. This was just a thrift store impulse and I'm glad I had that impulse! I'm looking forward to reading more from Ms. Lennox and I am eager to try more Medicals
