Stuffed with charm and zany characters, this frothy cozy from Donnelly delivers plenty of color but lacks the investigative oomph of its predecessors (You May Now Kill the Bride, etc.). This may be due to the preoccupation of Seattle wedding planner Carnegie Kincaid with her own upcoming nuptials, or it could be the promise she made to her fiancé, Aaron Gold, to keep her nose out of harm's way. Whatever the reason, Carnegie spends more time thinking about cakes, flowers and why Aaron won't set a date for their wedding than she does tracking down the creep who murdered a sports commentator at her latest high-profile fete. Carnegie's friend Boris has been tagged for the crime, but she knows that it must have been one of the other attendees—and her suspicion points toward the groom, a pro baseball player. Carnegie's list of suspects is short and her sleuthing methods—calling the party attendees, visiting the victim's ex—less than impressive. However, appearances by cake maker extraordinaire Juice, the boisterous Buckmeisters and Carnegie's no-nonsense friend Lily, among others, fill this void with a rowdy and largely diverting din. More About the Author

Hello! I'm a sea captain's daughter who grew up in Panama, Cape Cod, and points in between. I attended Macalester College in St. Paul, and earned a masters in library science at the University of Washington. And I've been cooking up stories ever since I could think.

Over the years I've occupied myself with several occupations. I've been an academic librarian in Walla Walla, an executive speechwriter in Seattle, and a rather improbable nanny in Singapore. Along the way I wrote science fiction stories that appeared in Asimov's, F&SF, and Universe - not to mention reprints in Portuguese and Lithuanian!

Then my best friend and I got married (though not to each other) within the same few months. The fun of planning our weddings, combined with an evening course in mystery writing, led to the creation of Carnegie Kincaid, bridal consultant and amateur sleuth. VEILED THREATS, published by Bantam Dell in January 2001, was soon followed down the aisle by DIED TO MATCH, MAY THE BEST MAN DIE, DEATH TAKES A HONEYMOON, and now my latest, YOU MAY NOW KILL THE BRIDE.

I was long-time Seattleite, just like Carnegie, but I've been living in the sunshine and sagebrush of Idaho with my husband and our two Welsh corgis. Now we're in the process of moving to Portland, Oregon - a new adventure! I'm a gratefully healthy breast cancer survivor, and I love to go hiking in the mountains and to throw parties - though none quite as fancy as the show-stoppers that Carnegie puts on.

I've loved all the entries in the Carnegie Kincaid series, but this one may be my favorite. All of Donnelly's most charming and eccentric characters are gathered together for a party even a Red Sox fan would enjoy! There's something for everyone in this mystery--wonderful wedding details, an insider look at professional baseball, and even a glimpse of the Goth music scene. Carnegie's strong points are her curiosity and her connections with her friends--both draw her into unraveling the death of a nasty sportswriter in BRIDE AND DOOM. And best of all, the reader has the satisfaction of watching Carnegie struggle with her own wedding plans. Cozy mystery reading at its finest!

This installment was better than the last few -- however, as with the last one, I was disappointed in the ending.

The suspense was good for a cozy, and as a baseball fan, I thought the whole backstory was a lot of fun. And the supporting cast, as always, was terrific, with the exception of Aaron, who drives me up the wall.

Looking foward to the next installment of the series.

I really liked this one even though I had it figured out midway through. I loved the backdrop of baseball and Boris being front and center. I enjoyed the progression of Aaron and Carnegie's relationship and I found the ending extremely satisfying. A fun read!
