Book Description

August 28, 2007

Though Eve Faraday was beautiful and intelligent, she never expected to be wooed by the devastatingly handsome and utterly charming Aubrey Ashford, the most eligible bachelor in all of London. Skeptical of the sudden attention, she tries hard to avoid temptation, but the alluring Aubrey—and his kisses—prove impossible to resist! She accepts his offer of marriage and moves with him to his ancestral home at Fair Isle. But after such a whirlwind courtship and lightning-quick marriage, Eve begins to wonder if she really knows Aubrey at all. There is something mysterious, something magical and primeval about her new husband . . .

Aubrey is not who he appears to be—that much is certain. But his feelings for Eve are true. And only when he reveals his astonishing secret will Eve realize that she and Aubrey might have a chance at a love that will last forever . . .

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Edith Layton loved to write. She wrote articles and opinion pieces for the New York Times and Newsday, as well as for local papers, and freelanced writing publicity before she began writing novels.

Publisher’s Weekly called her “one of romance’s most gifted authors.” She received many awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romantic Times, and excellent reviews and commendations from Library Journal, Romance Readers Anonymous, and Romance Writers of America. She also wrote historical novels under the name Edith Felber.

Mother of three grown children, she lived on Long Island with her devoted dog, Miss Daisy; her half feral parakeet, Little Richard; and various nameless pond fish in the fishness protection program.

2.0 out of 5 stars Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, September 30, 2007
This review is from: Bride Enchanted (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok, but not great. You knew he was going to come to the decision that happened by the middle of the book and it just kind of fizzled out. Boring...I had to force myself to complete it.

Try something else, this one was NOT a keeper.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great plot but boring characters, February 6, 2008
This review is from: Bride Enchanted (Mass Market Paperback)
Eve Faraday spies the mysterious Aubrey Ashford at a ball and believes him to be the most beautiful man she has ever seen. When he asks her for a dance, she is amazed this very eligible nobleman would dance with her. She is neither beautiful nor exceedingly rich.

Aubrey courts Eve and they marry quickly; Aubrey pushes her into a union rather fast. They go to his country manor and Aubrey has a little surprise for his bride. He is not what he seems. There are magical forces that surround him and Eve is not sure if she can believe his wild tales or if her husband is simply mad.

This book had so much potential. The plot was original yet the characters were dull. There was no chemistry, no spark, no grand passion. There's very little character development. I never even noticed them falling in love with each other. They kind of talked themselves into marrying, and then talked themselves into falling in love. Their relationship felt clinical and too rational. When is love ever rational? It is supposed to be passionate. Even with enchantment all around them, this couple was boring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanted Read!, August 29, 2007

This review is from: Bride Enchanted (Mass Market Paperback)
I was completely enchanted by this book. At last, someone successfully marries fantasy and romance, and it is a match made in heaven. Layton's facility with language continues to thrill me. Her sense of humor and originality in plot and character make this book a real treat! I can't wait to read more about the world of these characters.
