5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Full of Heart!
Patti Berg has done it again with a fast-paced, fun read, full of heart and delightful characters. Indiana Jones has nothing on Duncan Kincaid, a hunk of an adventurer who's quest for a lost treasure has brought him to Sanctuary, Montana. His ex-wife, Cairo McKnight, embarks on an adventure of her own when she decides that her son needs his father. But is Duncan...

I did not buy this book, and for that I am extremely glad (...) My friend lent to me this book and Wife For A Day and I read Wife For A Day first because it sounded like the book that would not be quite as good and I like to save the best for last. Strangely enough, I was very impressed with Wife For A Day and was expecting an even better read when I moved onto the next...unfortunately this is not what I got. I am only right now in the middle of the book and I am debating whether or not I should finish it at all. Lets face it, the characters are boring. The dialogue between them is unrealistic and unintelligent. The plot seems like it was taken from a million other romance novels and Ms. Berg just subbed in the names. In the beginning, when Duncan first sees Cairo in the cave, is he startled to see her? No. It's been 5 years, he was never expecting to see her again, least of all in caves, and all he said was, "What are you doing here, Cairo?" with no feeling whatsoever. And it even mentioned that after Cairo fell and had her palm filled with cactus needles that the jerk liked seeing her in pain. I was not charmed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Full of Heart!, June 26, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Patti Berg has done it again with a fast-paced, fun read, full of heart and delightful characters. Indiana Jones has nothing on Duncan Kincaid, a hunk of an adventurer who's quest for a lost treasure has brought him to Sanctuary, Montana. His ex-wife, Cairo McKnight, embarks on an adventure of her own when she decides that her son needs his father. But is Duncan father- material, or the irresponsible adverturer who left her after only one night of marriage? Cairo vows to find out before she takes the step to unite Duncan with the son he doesn't know he has.

Duncan and Cairo have great chemistry and heat up the pages with their attraction to each other. Ms. Berg also gives the reader a tender secondary love story between Cairo's free-spirited aunt and Duncan's father, a widower who needs a little nudge to take another chance on life.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fun story from a wonderful author..., May 16, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Patti Berg's latest book from Avon, Bride for A Night, is a wonderful contemporary and a great follow up to her wildly popular Wife for A Day. Bride for A Night is Patti's seventh book and is surely another hit to add to her impressive book list.

Duncan Kincaid and Cairo McKnight are archaeologists, and they are also divorced. They met when Cairo, raised by archaeologist parents who named her for the city of her birth, was only a teenager following Duncan around the dig site. As they grew, their friendship developed into love, which led to a impulsive Las Vegas marriage. Unfortunately, after a wonderfully romantic and sexually inspiring wedding night, Duncan left. The fact was that he went to Egypt on a dig and got wrongfully arrested, in addition to having to fly home after his parents were in a car accident that killed his mother and permanently disabled his father. However, the only thing that Cairo could see was that he married her, shared her bed, left the next day, and didn't contact her. When Cairo's parents pushed for an annulment, Cairo agreed. Shortly thereafter, she learned she was pregnant.

Now, five years later, Cairo seeks out Duncan at his dig site in Montana to beg for his help in saving her failing tour business. She has never told Duncan about their son Dylan, but a brush with death has convinced her that she needs to see if Duncan can be a stable and reliable father to their child, who happens to be a accident-prone genius.

For those of you who know and love Patti's paranormal books, you will be pleased to know that there is just a touch of the paranormal in this story in Duncan's "conversations" with Angus MacPherson, the nineteenth-century mountain man who originally found a city of gold in Montana. The humor provided by Angus's observations and, Dylan's questions and catastrophes adds an important element to this relationship. The secondary characters, including Cairo's aunt and Duncan's father, who develop a relationship of their own, are very strong. The suspense of Duncan's quest and the danger for Duncan, Cairo and Dylan associated with it, both physically and emotional, will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book combines all of these elements in a wonderful way to create an unforgettable story. Great work, Patti - keep 'em coming! Copyright 2000, Barb's All Romance Book Store

5.0 out of 5 stars once you read this romance author, you won't want to stop, April 29, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Adventure seeking archeologist Duncan Kincaid and classic archeologist Cairo McKnight hastily marry in Vegas and share an incredible evening of lovemaking. However, by morning Duncan deserts his new spouse without a word to join a dig in Egypt. He is arrested and while he lingers in jail, a disappointed Cairo annuls their marriage before finding out she is pregnant.

Four years and one month later, Cairo feels guilty about ignoring Duncan's efforts to explain his actions and worse yet, hiding his son Dylan from him. Though desperate to save her tour business from going bankrupt, she uses it as a ploy to try to patch up their relationship. Though hurt by her ignoring his pleas, insulted by her offer to serve as a tour guide, and about to make a great discovery, Duncan sees an opportunity to regain the woman he loves. Will he choose pride and fame or a chance for love?

Readers of contemporary romance know that Patti Berg provides entertaining tales centering on miscommunication. Her latest tale, BRIDE FOR A NIGHT, is an exciting story that focuses on the need for meaningful dialogues to cement a relationship. The lead couple is an endearing duo though the audience will wonder how Duncan never knew about his child. Still, as with BRIDE FOR A NIGHT and WIFE FOR A DAY, Ms. Berg paints a wonderful story that will please sub-genre fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, May 28, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
After waiting months for this book I also was very disappointed. Wife For A Day was a great book. Bride For A Night, unfortunately was not. I almost didn't finish it but I did hoping it would get better. I did not like Cairo's character. She was too indecisive. As an expert explorer, Duncan did some pretty dumb things. Even though their son had a high IQ, he seemed a little too smart for a four year old. The relationship between Graham and Phoebe did not seem real--I don't think anyone moves as fast as they did or after grieving for his wife for five long years Graham gets over her in a few days. Most scenes were short and clipped. I could go on but I won't. Sorry Patti this one just didn't do it for me. But I won't give up on you. I look forward to your spinoffs from Wife For A Day (Lauren Remington and Mike Flynns stories).

2.0 out of 5 stars Her Other Book Was Better, October 1, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was really boring. Duncan and Cairo(weird name) fight with each other over the past and then they fight again over their son, Dylan. Not real exciting but there were funny and good parts.

I got to admit that the romance between them was sweet but Duncan and Cairo go hot and cold. One time they hate each other, in another time they're being real passionate and then they hate each other again. That's the part that killed my interest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Digging Through, July 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book by Patti Berg I have read and I had to really "climb" my way through it. I wish I had read the reviews before I bought the book. The main characters were too immature and irresponsible to become likeable. If anything I am amazed that Duncan would forgive Cairo for misleading him for five years. There's got to be more than "long legs and a lush tush" to sustain even a romance novel's love. I realize the author tried to get the reader involved in Cairo's issues however the author negates any sympathy when she points out how Duncan HAD been there for Cairo while she was growing up......so why does Cairo forget all this and heap on her parents' mistakes on his head? It doesn't make sense especially when Cairo leaves her own son for her own career. Basic fact, if you don't like the heroine in a romance novel this is a major stumbling block to the rest of the novel.

I am going to give this author another go as the reviews that knocked BRIDE FOR A DAY praised WIFE FOR A DAY. Although I'll look for the book at the library before gambling my hard-earned money on this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars ho hum, June 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
This wasn't a terrible book, but I did think the humor was pretty lame and silly. I love romantic comedy, but this just didn't fit my own sense of humor, and the plot struck me as awfully familiar, like this was like pretty much every other romantic comedy from Avon.

4.0 out of 5 stars What would it be like to fall in love with Indiana Jones?, June 6, 2000
This review is from: Bride for a Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay, so Duncan Kincaid isn't exactly Indiana Jones but he is a sexy archaelogist with a dubious background bent on finding the next big thing... with the ability to "talk" to a dead mountain explorer from the 19th century and blood for adventure. Cairo McKnight is a beautiful single mother, trying to find out if her ex-husband of ONE night is worthy of finding *her* secret...The secret that they had a son together, whom Duncan knows nothing about!

Bride For A Night (I'm beginning to really like Patti's titles...) is a fun and fast paced romance between two people who were separated by unforseen circumstances after a whirl-wind marriage of ONE night... Almost 5 years later, they are brought back together by two things they share together... love for adventure and their son.

What's so fun about this book is not only the blatant sexual tension between the two characters but the fact that their passion from the past consumes the present. And you can just imagine how *hot* their past was. Also fun is the secondary love story between Graham Kincaid and Phoebe McKnight... The story takes even more interesting turn because Graham is Duncan's father, who is in a wheel chair due to a spinal cord injury and Phoebe is Cairo's hippie aunt!

Okay, I don't want to give the rest of the story away... So you're just going to have to read it for youself. You'll enjoy this book!

I was so anxious for this book after I read Wife for a Day. I could not get into this book. I finished it only because I had to see if it got any better. I was extremely disappointed in this.
