Book Description

Harlequin Historical April 1, 2007
When the widowed boardinghouse keeper he has come to rescue turns out to be a scantily-clad showgirl, Jed Doulan knows he's in for trouble. With his shadowed past, he'd be mad to let this spirited—and surprisingly innocent—woman get close.

Bound by a hasty marriage to her reluctant hero, Rachell Carlson senses his struggle to keep a distance between them. But the message in Jed's eyes makes her pulse quicken—and even dares her to believe in love.

More About the Author

Stacey Kayne grew up at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. She spent her summers camping in the high country and adventure seeking with her brothers. Though her passion for writing came as a shock after buying her first computer in the summer of 2001, it's not a wonder her first novels were borne from daydreams about fictional characters and their wild escapades through those rugged mountains.

An American history college course was a major catalyst in her writing aspirations. Steeped in facts and images of the American West, her mind began its usual wandering. With a computer at her disposal, she decided to type out her daydreams--halfway through her history course, Bride of Shadow Canyon was created.

While writing her first western, Stacey discovered that an adventurous setting with ever-changing untamed scenery is a driving force of her imagination. Rugged, dusty, wild, resilient--there's such an elemental connection between the setting and the characters. Her mind is constantly searching for ways to submerge new characters in the beauty and grandeur of the American West.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read !, May 15, 2007
This review is from: Bride Of Shadow Canyon (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
On every page something happens and that is what I like most about this book. Not a dull moment! A great hero who has no intention to let a red-haired little missile mess up his life but he stands no change against the innocent showgirl.
Rachel knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. Jed Doulan fights her all the way but it's impossible for him to resist the stubborn beauty.
Bound by a hasty marriage they travel together and Jed really does his best to keep his hands to himself. No luck!
Stacey Kayne writes about Cowboys and Indians as if she lived with them for years and her writing really brings you back to those wild and dangerous days. I loved the part where Rachel and Jed spend time with Running Bear and his family and it made me want to be there.
This book will give you a very happy day and it definitely made me look for other books by Stacey Kayne.

This is the second book I've read by this author, and it's just as good as the first. Kayne is obviously talented. This book gets everything right - great plot, interesting page-turning action, good character development, plausible characters, and a great romance with plenty of sparks. Kayne's writing is easy to read and has a good mix of narration and dialogue that paints a vivid picture without bogging the reader down. I'll be reading more of this author's works for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, WHAT A GREAT READ., February 2, 2010
This review is from: Bride Of Shadow Canyon (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book that I've read by Stacey Kayne and I was not disappointed. In fact, just the opposite. Wow, what an amazing story, and so very well written. From the very first page, to the very last, Stacey took you on a wonderful journey. I love the characters. There was never ending action, and drama. I couldn't get enough of Jed, and really liked, Rachell as well.

When I later looked up Stacey's website, I was pleased to see she had another book with Juniper as the main character. I'll have to get that one. I would rank Stacey's writing and ability to tell a story with captivating characters, right up there with Jodi Thomas and Linda Lael-Miller. When I see her name in the future on the bookshelf, I won't be able to resist picking up her latest novel and purchasing it. It's always nice to find a new/exceptional author.
