Book Description

Now a Bride is what fans of New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh’s Mistress series have been clamoring for: more passion and more drama featuring the Dudley siblings.

In anticipation of the enticing third book in the Mistress trilogy, The Secret Mistress, here are never-before-published scenes from More than a Mistress and No Man’s Mistress—plus Mary Balogh’s new epilogue for the series.

• JOCELYN AND JANE: Three new scenes—“The Proposal,” “The Wedding,” and “Return to Acton Park”—spark more fiery passion from charmingly arrogant Jocelyn and spirited Jane.

• FERDINAND AND VIOLA: Two unpublished scenes—“The Wedding” and “Home to Pinewood Manor”—prove once again that this unlikely but perfect couple is made for each other.

• THE REUNION: FIVE YEARS LATER: Enjoy a brand-new chapter that reunites readers with all three Dudley couples and their children and answers every fan’s biggest question: What happened after the last page was turned?

NEW: The enchanting prequel to the Mistress series! Readers got to know madcap Angeline and straitlaced Edward through the romantic adventures of the Dudley brothers.

But Angeline and Edward have their own story of passion to tell in The Secret Mistress.

BONUS: This eBook includes an excerpt from Mary Balogh's The Secret Mistress

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT a short story June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was rather disappointed to discover there is no short story here, just a few chapters that were edited out of previous books. Although they were interesting, in the end I agree with Ms. Balough's editors, and don't think it was fair to charge even 99 cents for this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed With Now a Bride June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was very disappointed to discover that there is no short story here. It is reminiscent of the "extras" on a DVD . . . unpublished chapters, commentary, and a teaser for an upcoming book. I am a big Mary Balogh fan, so it was a real let-down to not find a story in this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read Description Before Buying June 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you read the description, you will not be disappointed in this purchase. This contains the missing/edited scenes from "More than a Mistress" and "No Man's Mistress", a scene from the upcoming prequel "The Secret Mistress" and an epilogue set five years after the last book. If you have read the first two "Mistress" books you will enjoy this little collection. It is a must-have for true Balogh fans!

It's only $0.99 on Kindle and for me it's worth it just for the missing bits from More than a Mistress which is one of my favourite Mary Balogh books. This is NOT really a short story or a novella - it has 'missing' chapters that were edited from the original manuscripts. If you know MTAM then you may remember how the proposal/wedding scenes were missing. In the original book Jocelyn and Jane are reunited but one minute she's telling him she's pregnant and the next they are at her coming out ball. It always seemed to me to be very abrupt and lo and behold apparently Ms Balogh's editors, for reasons best know to themselves, cut these scenes out. Well here they are plus a final scene from the book (epilogue) that has always been available on Ms Balogh's website if you cared to look (strangely the epilogue scene in THIS kindle version is slightly different from the one on her website but never mind). I never liked No Man's Mistress so I'm not bothered by the extra scenes from this book which you get in addition but some might like them. Also the 'wrap up' scene for the series of three (including Angeline's story which is not yet out "Secret Mistress") is a bit banal and not very emotionally satisfying. Still for only $0.99, if you are a fan of More than a Mistress, you will definitely enjoy this brief extra Mary Balogh offering.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mistress/More Money for Publisher??? July 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I can't believe they are charging $0.99 to read extra scenes for these characters. These are the types of interesting tidbits that you usually get for free on an author's website. What a turn off... love Balogh's books and am willing to spend the extra money for first printing, but having to pay for very little, and not very interesting snippits, makes little sense.

(Short Story) NOT!

This is a must-read only for die-hard Balogh fans and epilogue lovers. Those who have a low threshold for boredom and honest-to-gosh wholesomeness, stay away. We're supplied with a few chapters cut from the first two MISTRESS books, about Jocelyn and Ferdinand, and by reading them, we see why the editors suggested cutting them in the first place, but for a true Balogh fan they could be an interesting read. Then we get an epilogue to all 3 MISTRESS books, including the most recent THE SECRET MISTRESS. It takes place maybe 5 years after Ferdinand and Viola's wedding. (They're the last couple to marry.) Here you get yourself up to date on how many children everyone has, how happy they all are and how wholesome their lives are. It's like a Hallmark card and many fans will like it.

But for me, this should not have cost even 99 cents. This is all stuff that, as one reviewer here said, should have been supplied for free on Balogh's website. Maybe she's needing to accumulate money for her old age. Case in point, her more recent novels are now first appearing in pricey hardcover versions. I won't pay that for a Balogh book, however long I have been a fan of hers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agree not a short story, but still worth it if... July 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This isn't a short story. It's an add-on to "NO MAN'S MISTRESS"(? sorry if I got the title wrong) and "MORE THAN A MISTRESS". For 99 cents it was worth the chance to get my "Mary B." fix until the release of "SECRET MISTRESS"! But if you haven't read the first two books in the series don't get this. It's like the deleted scenes from movies, they only make sense if you've already seen the movie.
