This book is a must-read!,
By Shirley Jump Groupie (Wyoming) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bride Wore Chocolate (Paperback)
I loved this book. This funny, sexy, melt-in-your mouth story about a sensible bride-to-be, her straight-laced groom-to-be, and an accidental complication--a temptingly delicious bachelor-for-life with a romantic streak as wide as a river of Godiva kept me guessing all the way to the tasty conclusion.
The moment I read about the heroine waking up in the wrong man's bed after her can't-find-a-wedding-dress pity party (whoops!) I knew this story was a winner. If you love romantic comedy, especially fast-paced, witty, FUN writing, this is the book for you.

even the recipes made me laugh,

It's a delicious frothy book. The hero and heroine are fun together and the over-the-top secondary characters (like the much-marrying mom) add plenty of color to the mix. WARNING: Do not attempt to read this unless you have chocolate in the house. At least have a few chocolate chips on hand.

Romance and Chocolate - What Could be Better?,
By
This review is from: The Bride Wore Chocolate (Paperback)
Candace Woodrow was getting married in three weeks and for someone who was detail oriented - planning everything down to the minutest detail, fate seemed to be conspiring against her. Were these all `signs' as her wacky grandmother kept telling her that this was wedding shouldn't take place - like the dress shop burning down with her bridal gown; the priest running off with the church secretary; or the cheap labels falling off the wedding invitations? Or was it fate weaving it's treacherous fingers in her life that found her waking up in a strange hunk's bed after a night of over imbibing too many cocktails and then find said `hunk' constantly turning up in her life and distracting her from the course she had set her mind on? Then fate must have had a very weird sense of humor.
Fate must have had a hand in putting Candace Woodrow in Michael Volgers face as well, because this confirmed bachelor couldn't seem to put her out of his mind as well. Candace was so different from any of the society debs he'd dated so far and just maybe he was going to reevaluate his stance on bachelorhood now that he'd had a taste of `Candy'. This was a delightful and fun read - not to mention `fattening' if you follow even half the delectable recipes served up with a heavy dose of sage advice and loads of chocolate. Candace had once thrown caution to the wind been betrayed and vowed to live life by the book rather than run the chance of being hurt like that ever again. She'd picked out the safe - if boring road according to her wacky grandmother - and was ready to marry Barry Borkenstein. Fortunately, Michael entered her life and was ready, willing and able to convince her that she should trust her heart once more and take a leap of faith - with him. Filled with wonderful chocolate recipes, an indomitable and wacky grandmother, a serial marrying mother, and well-intentioned friends -- this is a sensually romantic comedy you won't want to miss. --- Marilyn, for www.romancedesigns.com ---

The Bride wore chocolate, and so did I...,
By Miss Mindles "Miss Mindles" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bride Wore Chocolate (Paperback)
With 'The Bride Wore Chocolate,' Shirley Jump has created a fantastic confabulation not unlike one of the fabulous featured recipes included at the beginning of each chapter. Entertaining, sexy, funny and delicious, this is one romance you do NOT want to miss out on. And you don't want to miss out on these recipes, for that matter...
Isn't it true that just when you think you have your life planned out, and everything is running smoothly, a spanner is thrown in the works that changes the way that you see your life? Candace's spanner is called Michael Vogler, self-appointed rescuer from her boring, predictable life (and her boring, predictable fiance with his overbearing, muu-muu-clad mother). And once he's there, she just can't get away from him... until, tonnes of chocolate (and five pounds) later, she realises that she really doesn't want to. With witty dialogue, convincing characters, and a seductive hero, this book is completely satisfying. A five-star winner. And as for those delicious recipes... oh, my. I can't say enough about those recipes - and I've never read such entertaining recipes, either :) But you don't want to read this book without chocolate on hand, because the constant references to chocolate might get to be too much after a while ;P After having read only one of her books, I'm hooked, and hopelessly addicted to Shirley Jump. She has leapt into my top five romance authors list, and this is high praise indeed coming from a literary snob. So click that button. Buy this book. Otherwise, face tossing and turning at nights, wondering what it is that we're all raving about and what it is that you're missing out on.

Take one frazzled housewife/slash mother of 2.
Bring to boil over low heat. Add splash of romance and arousal, via Shirley Jump novel. Let simmer. Dribble in ecstasy inducing chocolate confections. Keep adding the chocolate. More chocolate. Ok, almost done... What a book. By the end, my mouth was watering. I even found myself driving to Sonic for a hot fudge cake sundae to satisfy my cravings. Didn't work. Need more story instead. This book was a fun story, very delicious. Can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.

This book will leave you craving chocolate and romance!,

This is my first Shirley Jump book. I especially loved the main character Candace, who is all set to get married but finds herself waking up to a strange man one morning after too many drinks the night before. She is freaked out, but the man is gorgeous! She's upset by what she had done (betraying her fiance) but she figures she can just forget about all this and she'll never see this guy again. Wrong! This guy has a name --Michael who comes to Candace's gift shop to order something for his clients. She is shocked to see him and they end up having to spend a lot of time together working on the project. Candace is having feelings for Michael that she never felt for her fiance Barry. What will she do? Read to find out! I also love how the author starts each chapter with a delicious chocolate recipe! What a great combo!

Delicious romantic comedy!,

This review is from: The Bride Wore Chocolate (Paperback)
Candace the perennial planner is getting ready to married boring Barry, if she could just get the details right. But the wedding gods are conspiring against her from the bridal store burning down with her dress in it to waking up in bed with a sexy stranger three weeks before her nuptials.
She thinks she'll never see that stranger again until he walks into her store to work on a special advertising promo that will force the two of them to spend some quality time together. Faster than you can say "cover me in chocolate," she and confirmed bachelor Michael Volger are lusting for one another, and he simply can't get enough of his favorite "Candy." He'll do anything to spend more time with her, including helping her shop for a wedding gown. But what will Barry's mama have to say in the matter... Loaded with punny recipes that are guaranteed to stick to your thighs, Jump has created yet another delicious romantic comedy made with humor and style. It's like buying a romance novel and getting a cook book free!

Makes your mouth water,
By
This review is from: The Bride Wore Chocolate (Paperback)
This was a yummy book. I loved the recipies, I will be trying some of those. It was a battle not to put the book down and go bake whatever they were talking about next. The dialouge (and recipe directions) speak to mothers and women everywhere. Michael was almost too good to be true. Ya, he is a dream. Candace is a lil hardheaded for most of the book, but thankfully she snaps out of it. Her grandmother is a gem. I think she just became my role model.
This really is a funny sweet story. Candace and Michael have a great connection. There is not alot of sex, but there is tension and there are sparks. This book is a page turner. I loved it. I am going to be getting the next book in the series and recomend it to whoever needs a chocolate fix and a laugh. But this copy is mine. Need it for the recipies. Enjoy |
