Editorial Reviews

Review

Having spent most of her life in a county hospital for the insane, Lacey O'Carroll jumps at the chance to leave Ireland and go to Wyoming with her friend, Nurse Kate. Kate is a mail order bride for Caleb Weatherspoon and Lacey is willing to marry a friend of Caleb's, if he'll have her. She knows she has to hide her past, after all, what man would want a mad woman for his wife? John Winterhawke is suspicious of the beautiful Irish woman who offers to be his wife and thinks there must be something wrong with her for her to want to marry a half-Indian. Hawke agrees to Caleb's suggestion to test her and brings her to his ranch, Winterhawke. He gives her until the preacher comes to marry Kate and Caleb to prove herself. Although she seems completely ignorant of domestic skills, Lacey has a gentle quality with the horses and Hawke is intrigued by her. Lacey does her best to please Hawke, sometimes with disastrous results. Hawke agrees to marry her anyway and quickly realizes he's going to have to teach Lacey more than how to cook and sew-- she is also naive about her wifely duties! In time, Lacey and Hawke get to know each other, but not without many misunderstandings. Despite their differences, they are both accustomed to being outcasts and fail to realize that they have so much to offer each other-- including love.A funny, romantic story that will make you laugh! Sharon Ihle knows how to grab her readers' attention and hold it! The realistic characters and range of emotions make The Bride Wore Spurs worth reading! Ms. Ihle's sense of humor adds so much to the plot. A terrific book!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Wit, charm and romance - utterly enjoyable!, December 23, 2010

The Bride Wore Spurs made me cry and laugh so often, I had to put it away on the train as I was embarrassing myself! Sharon has an amazing gift of wit, combined with a talent for telling a charming love story in a stunning setting. I could really see and hear the characters as well as imagine the beautiful Wyoming territory as it must have looked nearly 150 years ago. I could not put it down until I finished and then felt bereft there was no more to read!
