Well Written but not particularly exciting, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Brides of Durango: Elise (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is well written but the plot leaves a lot to be desired. It's a sweet story with little excitement. Elise Martin is a reporter who will almost anything to get a story. Planning to be married when the stage arrives Elise dressed in a wedding dress awaits her "fiancee". When he doesn't show she picks a man who arrives on the stage and offers him $10 to "marry" her, which he does; however, there is more to this "wedding" than meets the eye. The stranger turns out to be Sheriff Trace Jackson, who, for his own reasons, has assumed another identity, that of Gabriel West, who has won the newspaper from the former owner. Elise and Trace find themselves attracted to each other but Trace does not believe he can pursue Elise and marriage until he has settled his debt with notorious outlaw Matt Harris. Elise has discovered that the "dead" Trace Jackson is still alive and puts out a special edition of the newspaper announcing this little tidbit, then follows "Gabriel West" to Canyon City to inform him of this. What occurs between Trace and Elise and the notorious Matt Harris will not be discussed here as it would give away the plot of the story. Read this book and find out the ending.

This is the first time I've read a Bobbi Smith book and I liked it. Elise's story was good but it didn't get real exciting until the end of the book, I wanted to turn the pages. It was a good story and I liked the characters. I would recommend it as a good read and I will read the other "Brides" stories.

4 1/2 stars...Very enjoyable..., April 6, 2007
This review is from: Brides of Durango: Elise (Mass Market Paperback)
Description from the back of book:
Elise Martin would do anything for a story - even stage a fake marriage to catch a thief. Dressed in a white lace gown, she looked every bit the bride, but when her "fiancé" failed to show, she offered ten dollars to the handsome gentleman who'd just stepped off the stage to pose as the groom. As a fake fiancé, he was all right, but when he turned out to be Gabriel West, the new owner of her paper, the Durango Star, Elise wanted to turn tail and run. But she couldn't forget the passion his unexpected kiss at their "wedding" had aroused, and she started to wonder if there was more to Gabriel West than met the eye. For the more time they spent together, the more Elise wondered if the next time she said "I do" she just might mean it.
* This is the first of a 3 book series. I thought it was a great start to this series. I highly enjoyed it. I wanted to give it 5 stars but the only reason I didn't was because it was missing a bit of mystery & a good laugh here & there. There was adventure in this book but it was all laid out to you with no surprises. I like a bit of mystery & a good laugh every now in then. Aside from that minor complaint I absolutely loved this book & highly recommend it.
