5.0 out of 5 stars A wondeful modern gothic, September 11, 1999
This review is from: The Bride's Secret (Harlequin Intrigue, No. 524) (Paperback)
Adrianne Lee strikes gold with THE BRIDE'S SECRET, a wonderful modern gothic with enough twists and turns to keep even the most avid mystery reader turning the pages. Like the TV show "Mystery, She Wrote" Ms. Lee gives the reader plenty of suspects and keeps them guessing to the very end. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER LEE MASTERPIECE!!, September 7, 1999

I am a HUGE fan of Adrianne Lee's. Very few romantic suspense authors can keep me guessing until the last moment - but Adrianne Lee does. THE BRIDE'S SECRET is no exception. Not only does Lee weave a tight plot but her characters are so wonderfully drawn that I hate to say goodbye. Don't miss this one! Adrianne Lee strikes gold once again!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not Great, July 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bride's Secret (Harlequin Intrigue, No. 524) (Paperback)
"The Bride's Secret" is a book that left me with a strange feeling: it's entertaining, but not entirely satisfying. The secondary characters are appropriately quirky, the sex scene is pretty hot stuff, and Ms. Lee throws in twists galore-perhaps a few too many. The numerous twists and turns almost get dizzying; there's no chance to take them all in, since there's always another one on the way.

If anything, I think it was too much like a gothic and not enough like Ms. Lee. The emotion that usually fills her work wasn't there this time, and the characters were missing their usual depth. Instead, Chris is the dark, enigmatic hero to the extreme, almost infuriatingly so, and none of the big revelations have quite the impact they probably should. The sex appeal and mystery aspects are present. I just didn't care about the characters: they were too standard and never became more than that. I didn't dislike the book; I just usually expect more from an Adrianne Lee novel. But there are more than a few readers out there who will love Ms. Lee's take on the classic gothic formula, and I'm sure they won't be disappointed. It's a matter of personal taste. You know who you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERSONAL BEST, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bride's Secret (Harlequin Intrigue, No. 524) (Paperback)
I have been an Adrianne Lee fan since reading her first Intrigue, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE, back in 1994. THE BRIDE'S SECRET is, I think, her personal best. It literally held me spellbound. Thank you so much for the fun, Adrianne.

I really liked it. Not as good as ALIAS: DADDY, my all-time favorite, but very entertaining. Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A return to fun reading!, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bride's Secret (Harlequin Intrigue, No. 524) (Paperback)
Grab your box of chocolates and sit down to read this "intriguing" Intrigue. Bride's Secret may lead to the ultimate return of gothics. A modern sort of gothic, this one worked very well for me. You'll find this story loaded with off-the-way and on-the-wall characters that are sure to keep you turning the pages. Way to go Adrianne!
