Book Description

June 15, 2006
Melinda Andrews loves deeply. She often pours that love into caring for hurt animals and sketching the deer that live in the woods behind her farm. This regularly gets her into trouble with her "maam" and "daed," who feel she shirks her duties to "tend to her critters. " Gabe Swartz loves Melinda and wants to make her his wife, but even he has a hard time understanding why she seems to prefer the company of her animal friends to him. Worlds collide when Melinda delivers an ultimatum: Gabe must agree to give up hunting, a hobby he loves and believes to be useful, or she won't marry him. Will Melinda and Gabe be able to overcome their differences, or will they end up losing their chance for love and marriage? Fall in love with this inspiring love story and our entire collection of Christian romance novels from Heartsong Presents!

Torn Between Two Loves

What’s a girl to do when she loves animals and her boyfriend loves to hunt?

Melinda Andrews believes all animals should be protected and cared for by humans. Her long-time sweetheart, Gabe Swartz believes in enjoying responsible hunting for food and population control. When Gabe proposes marriage to Melinda, she worries that their differences on this issue could war against their happiness.

When a veterinary friend suggests Melinda make a career out of animal care – even go as far as veterinary schooling – Melinda is intrigued. But the desire to become a vet could drive more conflict between Melinda and Gabe – as well as alienate her from her family and close-knit Old-Order Amish community that doesn’t believe in college education or careers for women outside the home.

How can Melinda realize her dream without losing all she loves?

More About the Author

Wanda Brunstetter is an award-winning romance novelist who has led millions of readers to lose their heart in the Amish life. She is the author of almost 50 books with more than 5 million copies sold. Many of her books have landed on the top bestseller lists, including the New York Times, Publisher's Weekly, CBA, ECPA, and CBD. Wanda is considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, and her work has been covered by national publications, including Time Magazine and USA Today.

Wanda's fascination with the Amish culture developed when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church, and whose family has a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sister-in-laws caused Wanda to yearn for the simpler life. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America. Wanda's desire to explore their culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith.

All of Wanda's novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Many of her books are well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.

Wanda's primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Wanda finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern "Englishers." Time and time again, Wanda loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too. For more information, visit: www.WandaBrunstetter.com

Too often we are inundated with romance novels filled with images that leave us to blush. Brunstetter allows us to see into the heart of both Gabe and Melinda; feeling their deepest desires while staying pure. When Melinda's dreams threaten to take her from not only the man she loves, but also from her faith and her community, she must learn to rely on prayer, faith, and hope to help her decide. Also on Melinda's side is her beloved, Gabe. While he doesn't understand why she isn't content to become an Amish wife and mother, he loves Melinda enough to not give up. Brunstetter's characters are strong and realistic. She gives them multiple dimensions that make the reader want to keep reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear To Me, April 9, 2008
As always Wanda Brunstetter did a great job on this book. Melinda had to decided if she wanted to go back to the English world so that she could become a vet or stay in the Plain world and marry Gabe. Melinda & Gabe grew alot both individually and together while trying to find out what was most important to make Melinda happy for the rest of her life. It was a very hard decision because if she chose the English world she would have to be shunned by her family. If she stayed in the Plain world she may never be truly happy.

I can't wait for Wanda's next book to be released.
