Touching and Wholesome,

This review is from: Dear to Me (Brides of Webster County, Book 3) (Truly Yours Romance Club #20) (Paperback)
Too often we are inundated with romance novels filled with images that leave us to blush. Brunstetter allows us to see into the heart of both Gabe and Melinda; feeling their deepest desires while staying pure. When Melinda's dreams threaten to take her from not only the man she loves, but also from her faith and her community, she must learn to rely on prayer, faith, and hope to help her decide. Also on Melinda's side is her beloved, Gabe. While he doesn't understand why she isn't content to become an Amish wife and mother, he loves Melinda enough to not give up. Brunstetter's characters are strong and realistic. She gives them multiple dimensions that make the reader want to keep reading.

As always Wanda Brunstetter did a great job on this book. Melinda had to decided if she wanted to go back to the English world so that she could become a vet or stay in the Plain world and marry Gabe. Melinda & Gabe grew alot both individually and together while trying to find out what was most important to make Melinda happy for the rest of her life. It was a very hard decision because if she chose the English world she would have to be shunned by her family. If she stayed in the Plain world she may never be truly happy.I can't wait for Wanda's next book to be released.

I have read several of Wanda's books and the set before this was very good and different but this was slow and almost boring....I usually enjoy the Amish stories.

Like Melinda, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for all of God's creatures. Had I been allowed to as a child, I'd have taken in every stray that came my way, too. As an adult, I've taken in many rescued pets and helped many animals in need. I grew up in a hunting family and although I didn't turn out to be a huntress, I don't have a problem with those who hunt for meat. While I am not abreast on Missouri fish & game laws, I was quite surprised when the author had Melinda suggesting feeding deer and taking in an orphaned fawn. Where I'm from, feeding wildlife is illegal and can be considered baiting, carrying a hefty fine. It's also illegal to keep wildlife as pets. I might not agree with everything FWP does, but it's the law. I found it interesting that, as a young mother, Faith vowed to always support her daughter's endeavors and not discourage her talents, etc. as her parents had done with her. She, of all people, should have known what it was like to be criticized and not encouraged by one's parents. However, that's exactly what she did to her own child. Overall, the story was good. It was quite refreshing to read this book without one of the notorious Brunstetter tragedies, but I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Unfortunately, it did. She couldn't make it through one book without throwing a rake in someone's spokes. Isaiah shooting Gabe wasn't necessary, but at least it was only one incident and not tragedy after tragedy as is her style. I don't understand why Melinda would have to leave her faith to further her education. I kept thinking of the scripture that says "The glory of God is intelligence." So, I don't understand why the Amish would discourage education. Chief Plenty Coup of the Crow once said "Our most powerful weapon is education." I would have thought that Faith would have been especially proud of her daughter's efforts to get her GED, etc. I also don't understand why Melinda would have to quit the vet clinic when she was married. When she had children, yes, but most newlyweds could definitely use the extra money she might have made. As a former veterinary assistant myself, I still think Melinda should have become a certified assistant or technician. My mother used to say that your knowledge is something that can never be taken from you. It would have only given her the extra skills necessary to help her animal friends. I have a friend who never became a vet, but she worked with one for so long that he has no problems with her doing even simple surgeries and sells her the necessary supplies. I could see Melinda being like that.

A Wonderfully Easy Read,

Dear to Me is another wonderful book by Wanda Brunstetter. This book is the story of Melinda who is trying to decide whether or not to leave the Amish faith to become a vet. She has a hard time deciding because her boyfriend Gabe doesn't want to leave the faith. Their relationship becomes tense as they struggle with the decisions that must be made.Dear to Me was a very easy book to read. As with all of Ms. Brunstetter's works the characters seem real and easy to believe. There is none of the woman meets man, they despise each other, and then fall madly in love storylines. This book is about two people who care about each other but want different things. How often is this true in real relationships? I love the fact when I pick up a Wanda Brunstetter book I can leave my fast-paced life behind and enjoy a few hours in the more laid back Amish community. Amish life, while it has it's ups and downs, seems much more peaceful than our English lives. This book is worth the few hours it will take to read. Grab a cool drink and head to a sunny spot to enjoy the wonderful Dear to Me!

I love reading Wanda Brunstetters books. She takes me to a place unlike my "English" world. She always has a lesson to be learned. In this book, I feel that we learn about surrendering to God's Will. Melinda loves animals and would like to be a vet, but that would mean leaving Gabe behind. What should she do??

This is a lovely book. A young Amish girl must choose between her natural ability to care for animals and become a vet in the English world and staying with the Amish life and people she loves. The author does an excellent job of painting Amish life and priorities.A story of a kind and gentle people vs. today`s challenges.
