Book Description

Book 1 in the USA Today Bestselling McMaster the Disaster series.

Josephine McMaster is pretty and smart, but very much a klutzy mess. Finally, at 26, she may have actually lost the dreaded ‘McMaster the Disaster’ nickname that has followed her around her whole life.

Josie’s quite content to be single, much to her mother’s disappointment. So when a bizarre contest is announced where a socialite is holding a lottery to pick her bridesmaids (and rake in a little extra cash), she can’t roll her eyes fast enough, even if it does mean meeting Jake Hall, her one and only movie star crush. Obviously, Josie doesn’t enter the bridesmaid lottery, so you can imagine her surprise when her picture pops up among the winners, thanks to Mom. With a little prodding -- okay bribing -- Josie agrees to participate.

The wedding turns into the event of the year, and Josie finds herself in the middle of a paparazzi feeding frenzy, which gets even crazier after Jake Hall takes a special interest in her.

Can Josie handle the pressure in the spotlight? Is it possible she might really have a chance with Jake Hall? And if she’s busy worrying about all that, how in the heck is she going to keep ‘McMaster the Disaster’ from showing up in front of the entire world?

I thought the idea of the plot was fun - and it was!
However, it's the lightest of light reads, and you will like it only if you're really into girly stories.
Here, the gay best friend acts as fashion advisor all throughout. Just as much of the story is devoted to trying on clothes and designing outfits for Josie (in the greatest details) as it is to the bridesmaid lotto itself and dating the awesome/handsome Jake. I didn't mind so much, it's just best to know it upfront!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and Romantic! April 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Oh how I loved this book! There are very few books that I have read cover to cover in one sitting, and this was one of them (others being all books from Sarah Addison Allen and maybe a Harry Potter or two or three). The book hooks you right away!

Thanks to a meddling mother, the main character ends up in a situation she swears she doesn't want to be in, but is secretly excited about the prospect of meeting her long time crush, movie star Jake Hall! The main character's image of herself is not matched by anyone who knows her, as they see her as beautiful, smart, and kind. She sees herself as a disaster and uses her "disasters" (laugh out loud funny stories about her most embarrassing moments) to keep her grounded during an experience that could give her a "big head". Josie (the main character) struggles to see herself as anything other than Josie McMaster the Disaster, but eventually finds that her "disasters" just make more likable.

The dialog between the characters is wonderful. In order for me to really enjoy a book, it must have great dialog and wonderful characters. This book has both. Josie's comments and inner thoughts are hysterical!

This book is laugh out loud funny - I'm still laughing - and it has the sweetest love story. I won't ruin it by telling you more. This book is like reading all the favorite parts of your favorite chic flicks combined in a wonderfully original story! I will warn you though, that the end leaves you hanging and wanting for more! I will wait patiently for the sequel!!

(Why can't I give zero stars?) Why are there so many fictional characters who are supposedly employed as copy editors, but whose grammar is atrocious? I can deal with the occasional slip or even the heavy use of colloquial English or slang, but the so-called editor in this story would never be able to get a job in a publishing house. (Hint: It's not "He gave a present to Jake and I." It's ME. Jake and ME. The author got it wrong nearly 100% of the time.) The grammar was so bad and distracting that it ruined any possible flow or story line for me.

I kept waiting for the story to develop but it was altogether lame. Don't waste your time.

More About the Author

I grew up with three sisters; an older, a younger, and a twin, in a house with only one bathroom. I now live with my husband and two stepsons (and thankfully, two bathrooms), and have constant girl stuff withdrawal, which you'll find my books often reflect.

I write light, fun books, that I hope put smiles on peoples faces.

Rachel

P.S. A little tidbit about the McMaster the Disaster trilogy: at least one of the embarassing moments of each book in the trilogy are my own personal embarassing story come to life on the pages of Josie's journal. I will go to my grave before admitting which ones. :o)
