Book Description

Cross Over Troubled Waters

Hope is like the stars—always there, yet shining brightest in the blackest of nights. It is like the dawn, always rising anew. Hope is for everyone, and that includes you. This collection of more than twenty true stories from a ranch of rescued dreams unveils the heart of true strength and the character of genuine courage. Experience for yourself the kind of love and hope that change a person from the inside out. Because sometimes, just believing in someone is enough for them to start believing in themselves. It’s the galvanizing truth that no matter how deep your pain…God’s love exceeds it still.

Sometimes, just believing in someone is enough for them to start believing in themselves…

Without raising his eyes to look at me, in a voice barely clearing the horizon of a whisper, he said, “I know you don’t love me… You just say that ’cuz you’re an adult and it’s kinda like your job. But I know you don’t really love me.”

Suffering and blessing balance on the same high wire, each giving stability and depth to the other. The one that we feel the most…is ultimately the one that we give the most.

It was her eyes that gave her away. The conflict of her mortal illness versus her will raged behind them. Her body shouted, “I’m sick and it’s getting harder and harder to do the things I love!” while her indomitable will shouted back, “Yeah, but I’m just a little kid, and little kids should get to ride horses!”

What a relief it is when we begin to understand that it is within our hardships that truth is elevated from our hearts to our heads.

“During the darkest days I’d ever known, I was introduced to the unconditional love of a little horse and a merciful God, and my life has never been the same,” says author Kim Meeder. And her book proves that hope is not only for us to keep…but to give.

“Stirring, encouraging, and inspirational, Bridge Called Hope reminds us that hope is heaven sent for everyone, and that we, too, can make a positive difference in others’ lives."
-Eric Close, Actor

“Kim Meeder vibrantly shares—and lives—an amazing story of hope and restoration. A triumph of recovery for wounded hearts!”
-Louie Giglio, Director, Passion Conferences, and bestselling author

Story Behind the Book

“I was moved to write Hope Rising and Bridge Called Hope because, when I needed it the most, someone shared hope with me and it saved my life. During the darkest days I’d ever known, I was introduced to the unconditional love of a little horse and a merciful God, and my life has never been the same. Everything in our life is about choices. We cannot control our circumstances, but we can control how we choose to feel about them. The pain that we feel in this life is certain. What is equally certain is how we choose to feel about the pain. It can destroy us—or it can define us. The choice is uniquely ours.” —Kim Meeder

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken horses, broken kids, healing for both November 2, 2006
Format:Paperback
Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch is a place of hope and healing. In this sequel to the best-selling Hope Rising, Kim Meeder continues her stories of hope and healing at the non-profit Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, a place where broken horses and broken kids rediscover life and living.

The stories in A Bridge Called Hope are all true. Some are funny, many are heartbreaking, but hope is present throughout. As abused horses and damaged kids discover each other through their common pain, special relationships are forged and the baby steps toward wholeness begin.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-touching stories leave a lasting impression February 28, 2007
Format:Paperback
Kim Meeder's Bridge Called Hope is a collection of stories about Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch. Meeder and her husband Troy bought some property in Central Oregon in 1993 and have refurbished the land into a successful horse ranch. Bridge Called Hope testifies to how they have used the ranch as a ministry to children. Kim relates biblical truths to her experiences as a rancher and to the relationships that have formed between the children and her horses.

Meeder writes with a poetic style, employing imagery, similes, and detailed description. She is skilled at writing vivid, emotional scenes. She addresses topics such as anger, love, death, encouragement, physical disabilities, abuse, friendship, and prayer. As the title suggests, the central theme is hope. The book also includes black-and-white photos from the ranch along with quotes from children Meeder has worked with.

Meeder's writing style and the large amount of stories about female characters may appeal more to women than to men. Bridge Called Hope would make a great gift for mother, daughter, wife, or friend. However, the heart-touching stories of this book may leave a lasting impression on any reader, regardless of gender, and especially on those who love horses and children. - Bridgette L. This book gives us a little window into the author's amazing life and a life of hurting horses and children. It is sad and inspiring at the same time. You get to "see" hurting horses and kids have a chance at really living. Wouldn't miss it. The first book is awesome too. Just by getting the books you are helping to support something great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bridge Called Hope May 21, 2007
Format:Paperback
Kim Meeder's ability to convey each short story whether of a horse and child, the journey of life, or of spritual growth through her own eyes is truly a gift.

Her first book, Hope Rising, that I received from a dear friend of mine, had me hooked instantly and looking for more. My friend and I are now living further away from each other than we ever imagined, however we are still connected through Kim Meeder's latest book, Bridge Called Hope.

Thank you Kim for keeping two friends connected, and for inspiring me deep within not only for my love of horses, but for rekindling the love for my family, my husband and son!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Horse Interactions March 2, 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This collection of stories about how horses and humans can interact will touch the most hard-hearted among us. Not only do the stories relate the astounding human/ horse miracles that can take place, they also follow the author's walk of faith, doing the very things God has called her to do, putting everything on the line at times. For anyone who loves horses, or even those who don't, this book will inspire readers to look differently at animals in general and wonder what further things they can tell us. Reverence for all life should follow. Highly recommended.
