Another fine CD by Hiroshima,
By
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
Very nice instrumentals on this CD, just what I expect and love to hear from Hiroshima. I've been a fan of Hiroshima since the 80s, and as long as they continue to produce CDs I'll keep on buying them.
Track #6, "Another wish," is my favorite. it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face! I liked "Believe," but "Caravan of love" wasn't enough. I can't figure out "Sever rivers." What can I say, it's weird! Terry Steele is a fine vocalist, but I can't see him as being a regular member of the band. We Hiroshima fans need to start a petition to have Barbara Long (who was the lead singer on "Go" and "Another place") return to the band and sing on their next album. I miss her talent for singing! Although this CD isn't as good as "Between Black and White," The Bridge is still worthy of my Hiroshima collection and makes for an enjoyable listening experience.

Hiroshima......The Kings of Smooth,

I've said this before....this is Hiroshima in their element. The sound, the vibe, the music....the very essence of smooth. The vocals are probably the only "weak" areas of this disc, albeit they ain't bad, but, do we really need another version of the Isley's "Caravan of Love", regardless of how "well" it's sung?June Kuramoto jams hardest on this disc and the instrumentals are reminiscent of the band in it's 80's heyday. This one's a keeper. I'd recommend it to those looking for smooth, unwinding jazz with the kind of edge that makes it perfect for late night relaxiing as well. I just can't get over "Caravan of Love"......arghhh!!

Very good but I could do without the vocals,

I love Hiroshima's style-I have just about everything they've put out. At first, I thought this cd was too "smooth jazz" & slick for me, but after repeated listening it's starting to grow on me( even the vocal tracks!). It's not that the vocals aren't first class, but for me it's always been the instrumentals that blow me away. I prefer their older material, but their recent best of collection is great as well. If you ever get a chance to see them live you really should. They are amazing!

Probably their best effort since the 1994 L.A. album (my favorite). I've been a fan of Hiroshima since I picked up my first Odori cassette in '81/82, and this album goes where they have not gone before. If the title "The Bridge" is a clue that they are crossing into something different then they have definately succeeded. The vocals of Terry Steele add a completely new and absolutely cool R&B flavor. On some of the cuts if it was not for June Kuramoto's trademark koto it would be difficut to tell that this is a Hiroshima album, even some of the more 'traditional' Hiroshima cuts on the album have a much more smooth jazz quality. The whole album also has a bolder bass line that really pumps things up. Definitely worth adding to your Hiroshima/music collection!

5.1 experience,

I am amazed that this release has not been reviewed by anyone to date. I bought it along with my first sacd player in '04. It is one of the best examples of what 5.1 can do for the listening experience. IE total emersion in sound. Great mixing and mastering. If the group should re-release all of their previous cd's on 5.1 I would without a doubt replace them all. It will sell you on sacd for sure. Also gives "Dark side of the moon" a run for it's 'money'.

An Excellent Japanese Smooth Jazz Group,
By
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
I been listening to Hiroshima since the mid-80's, and the first thing I fell in love with is June's Koto(Japanese Instrument). That Koto is mesmerizing. It puts me in another diminsion, especially on the songs, "Manzanar", "One Wish", "Distant Thoughts", just to mention a few, to me it's pure smooth jazz Japanese style, of course. Yutaka is another Japanese smooth jazz artist that came out in the late '70's, if not mistaken, that knows how to play Koto. One of his songs "Urban Jungle" off his "Brazasia" CD(1990) is a good one to get in to. I think less than 20 people in the world knows how to play a Koto and it's a beautiful sounding instrument. I hope this review finds you & I hope that it help you as well. Marlon
