5.0 out of 5 stars The next Frank Sinatra /Elvis
It has been decades since an entertainer of this caliber has come on the scene. This young man can SING, entertains with every song and is the total package.

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is fantastic (My only complaint - I wish they would tone down the choir a little bit so we could hear Clay's beautiful pure voice better.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Incredible voice........not-so-great production
Clay Aiken's debut single contains two of the memorable songs that he performed during the second season of American Idol, and both of them are quite the showcase for his soaring vocals. This is without a doubt, an out-of-the-box hit, and is destined for the top of the charts. My reasons for giving the CD only 3 stars have absolutely nothing to do with Clay's vocals,...

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is fantastic (My only complaint - I wish they would tone down the choir a little bit so we could hear Clay's beautiful pure voice better.)

"This Is The Night" is an original song, written by Aldo Nova who writes for Celine and Faith, among others. A beautiful song sung by a young man with an awesome voice.

It doesn't get any better than this (and I was a teenager / young adult during the Elvis era and Beatlemania).

I will be buying all of Clay Aiken's CDs for decades to come
Susan - age 57 (so much for the theory that all Clay's fans are teeny-boppers)

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not popular for liking him, but..., June 10, 2003
This review is from: Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The Night (Audio CD)
I like Clay Aiken. I'm not the kind of guy that would typically watch some reality show about "the making of" an American Idol, but I got into this season's series, largely because of Clay. Yes, I am male. Yes, I know he has a kind of efinimate way about him. I'm not popular among my friends for liking Clay Aiken, but I do. Why? He has an incredible voice, plain and simple. There's more to it than that though. When I listen to him, I'm moved, as if for the moment that's what life is all about: just letting myself get absorbed in music. He's not the only artist that has that affect on me, and won't be the last, but he's got that quality about him, and that makes him special.

"Bridge..." is a classic song, made new by this arrangement that I wish was a little less "Up with People" styled, but still excellent. "This is the Night" will reach number 1 and become a classic... just a great song with memorable lyrics and melody.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Clay does next...

Clay Aiken is the real deal. His powerful voice has the ability to evoke powerful emotions. I do believe RCA needs to let his voice do the work versus too much background vocal on Bridge Over Troubled Water (hopefully that will be corrected on the album) but both songs make my day. Definitely a CD for all music lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all about the voice, June 11, 2003

Clay Aiken's been dismissed as "too Broadway" and "too geeky" for pop stardom. In a time of cookie-cutter pop stars, it's no wonder that critics aren't sure what to make of him. One listen to his amazing voice shatters all precconceptions about what a pop singer should sound like. Buy this single and you can say "I knew him when." Aiken is going to be huge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Buy, June 12, 2003

Clay Aiken does not disappoint. Both Bridge Over Troubled Waters and This Is the Night are wonderful. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. I haven't been this excited about a singer in ages. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what American Idol is all about, June 10, 2003
This review is from: Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The Night (Audio CD)
This single is great and really shows off Clay's great voice. 'This is the Night' sounds better than it did on the show. My only complaint is that the choir in 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is too loud. I didn't buy the CD to hear them sing, I bought it to hear Clay. Overall though, the song still sounds fantastic and I'm sure both we be hits. I can't wait for Clay's full album to come out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, July 3, 2003

When I heard him sing on "American Idol", I thought he was going to win. However, the quality of these two tracks make up for his second place run. The pop scene needs more amazing voices like Clay Aiken. I hope these two tracks are in his upcoming full-length CD because if they are, the whole thing will sparkle with these two alone. He sings these tracks with intense heart and soul, never holding back a drop. "This Is the Night" proves that we will be hearing him on the radio years from now. Hopefully, the Grammy voters notice him because he deserves nominations for this single.

Even though I pre-ordered this, I have been privileged to have been hearing this CD played for the past two weeks on our Raleigh radio stations. Clay was home nearly two weeks ago and hand delivered several of his CDs to local radio stations in the Raleigh area. If you were impressed with his live preformances of these songs on AI you will be more than pleased with the studio versions. As always he is pitch perfect and his voice is hauntingly beautiful. To the nay sayers and especially Simon Cowell who labeled Clay as a "Broadway tunes singer" Clay has proven that he is a musically diverse talent. This is pop music at its finest. There is no doubt in my mind that Clay Aiken would have been a star without the AI exposure. This CD offers the listener a tiny peek into what will be a long and successful career of a very talented artist. Buy the CD you will find yourself not wanting to wait for his next full length album release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only One Small Problem!, June 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The Night (Audio CD)
Both of these songs are incredible. "Bridge" has a bit too much choir in it, but nonetheless--this song can be played over and over again to pick up on the nuances. Also, it you've ever heard the "Elvis version" of "Bridge..", it sounds a bit similar, and has a little "marchy" tone to it. "This is the Night" sounds strong and heavenly. It hits all the right neurons in the brain--incredibly pleasant! Only one small problem--the CD is too short! Leaves you wanting more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clay's First CD is Fantastic!!, June 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The Night (Audio CD)
I love both songs on Clay Aiken's first CD. He sings with such power and passion and has such a fantastic voice. I felt that the background singers and music was too loud on "Bridge", somewhat overwhelming Clay's beautiful voice at times. I wanted to hear Clay, not the singers and background music. But other than that this CD was a perfect 5 stars. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!
