A great bridge book!,
This review is from: Bridge, Probability & Information (Paperback)
I picked this book up on the recommendation of a bridge book seller who recommended it when he saw I was buying Love's book on Squeezes and Ruben's Expert Bridge Simplified (both are good books). I hadn't heard about it before hand, but it was a great recommendation. The writing is great with the technical information easy to follow and the Alice in Wonderland styled example bridge hands inject some humor while reinforcing the points.
In addition, the concepts around the division of sides and the simple math to count the combinations and evaluate the likelihood of different hand patterns was new to me and a great contribution from the author. I highly recommend this book to any bridge player interested in improving their play.

A little slow start, with some arguably valuable initial digressions, gets to the point later with excellent examples and invaluable insight. Recommended for all aspiring advanced players.

While I find the subject interesting, I found this book verbose. The material could have been presented better. The book could have been shortened by a third (or more).
I probably will not look at it again. Hugh kelsey and Jeff Rubens (and others) have books on similar topics. Tyr those.

This is by no means a beach-side read -- you have to work through the concepts to fully grasp them.
The book starts out slow and the tables look quite forbidding, but the author provides simplifications that amazingly enough work. For example, that the most probable division of suits between the defenders is as evenly as possible. If an opponent opens or preempts (so that he has fewer vacant spaces), you can often use this to get a full count of the hand.
