First. It helps if you like acoustic guitar. Second. Even if you don't you won't be able to find any other CD that even comes close to capturing the raw talent of some of today's legends. I can't help thinking that Neil Young tells all of the performers to "keep it simple". Vocals and a guitar work wonders with these kids. Tom Petty's guitar work is astounding, Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) vocals are pure, Simon & Garfunkel...wow, Pearl Jam...I'm now a fan, listen closely and Neil say's it best..."Elvis (Costello) you're a genius!", the best song in my opinion is Nils Lofgren. It's simply elegant. I came here to write this because I love music and this is the best album I have EVER purchased! Please Neil...MORE! I'll be sending a donation.

a must have, November 6, 1999
after seeing neil young's 1999 bridge school concert, i listened to this CD and immediately felt like sending $1,000 to the bridge school (if only i could afford it!). seriously, this album is the most excellent collection of artists and their songs that i have heard. most collections are unlistenable after the first listening, but this album can be listened to over and over!

NEILFEST, October 13, 2006
This review is from: The Bridge School Concerts - Volume 1 (Audio CD)
What do Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen and Beck all have incommon? They have all Performed at The Bridge School Concerts. Since 1986 these shows have become A Bay Area Tradition. Every Fall since 1986 Hundreds of Performers have lent their talents to Neil & Pegi Young's Benefit for these special Kids and their Unique School
This 1997 CD is a Sampler of the Magic that has occured at Shoreline and the Oakland Coliseum (1988). I have been Lucky enough to have attended three of these Concerts In (1999,2000 & 2004) and I was greatly impressed by the Whole Deal. From The Who To C,S,N & Y to Paul McCartney, Nobody throws a better Party Than Neil and Pegi Young, NOBODY... Oh, yeah Pearl Jam & Green Day Kicked [...] as well.
This CD Opens (as do shows) with Neil (with only an Acoustic Guitar & Harmonica) Playing a Song or Two. This one is "I Am The Child, that Buffalo Springfield Chestnut. He turns the Stage over to his "Guests", First up is Tom Petty, doing "Shadow Of A Doubt". The Rule is that everyone plays on Acoustic Instruments so well known tunes become Altered Greatly from their Original Form, and this is done to keep the Volume on Stage at a lower noise level because lot's of the Bridge School Kids are on Stage throughout these Long Concerts. The Pretenders with The Duke String Quartet and Beck are up next and they don't sound anything like you've heard them before...These are One Time Performances and that's what makes The Bridge Concerts so special. Don Henley does the Beatles, Ministry does The Dead and Ann & Nancy Wilson do Led Zeppelin.
This simply, is a GREAT CD !!! [...]
