5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best "pop" albums with an edge!
I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought it, with the exception of the first single "Happy Baby"...which I really liked. But I find the cd's that I buy on a whim, are always the one's that I can't put down. Basically I play this cd constantly, and this is the best "super-group" of the past year (honorable mentions to ex-gunners Slash, Matt...

3.0 out of 5 stars Better Live - watch out for Copy Control
Theses girls are all quite talented and I saw them live at the start of their tour. It was a great night and they played with and off each other. The material is weak which is typical when good singers try to write all their own material. Writing is nice, not performing mediocre material is better. Better to be a great singer than an average singer songwriter, in my book.

I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought it, with the exception of the first single "Happy Baby"...which I really liked. But I find the cd's that I buy on a whim, are always the one's that I can't put down. Basically I play this cd constantly, and this is the best "super-group" of the past year (honorable mentions to ex-gunners Slash, Matt and Duff in Velvet Revolver). The ladies sing really great edgy pop songs in a time where if you hear pop, it has to be either Celene Dion or Britney crap (no thanks). Great tune to start a cd, "On And On" just plain rocks. Then my favorite tune on the cd continues the experience, "Guenevere" highlights each vocalist's very destinctive voices in again, just a really great pop song. "Happy Baby" is probably still my second favorite song on the record, it's just one of those that gets you singing (I hope no one ever hears me sing the "...last night's clothes, no make-up" line!!!!). "Beauty" the second single, is a strong ballad, as is "How The West Was Won" later on. "Freedom" is a rocker, and "Daydream Car " provokes thoughts of speeding down a highway mid-summer with no cares in the world! "Godspeed" is the only track on the album that I have been known to skip, it just slows down the momentum when everything else is "full speed ahead"! To end, "No Mermaid" brings a surprise guest performance from the Cape Breton fiddler Natalie McMaster, and is a fitting end to the experience! The bonus cd is just that, a bonus. If you become as big a fan of this cd as I have...you will go and get the original cd's by each member (Kim Stockwood, Tara MacLean and Damhnait Doyle), I'm sure of it!!! Really!!! I'm just itchin' to see 'em live now, hopefully I'll have a better chance in Calgary!

4.0 out of 5 stars More than I expected, November 4, 2003
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
Shaye consists of Tara MacLean, Damhnait Doyle and Kim Stockwood, all fairly successful singer/song-writers on their own in Canada. Collectively they've created an impressive CD with "The Bridge", a solid collection of rock songs and songs with a folk influence. Tara and Damhnait are fine singers, but I don't think Kim Stockwood has an especially strong voice. She has little range and is constantly overshadowed by Tara MacLean, the best singer out of the three. Tara has perfect pitch, a soothing voice and she is clearly the star of this CD. Fans of the three singers will certainly enjoy this, but so should fans of Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant and other similar singers.

Favourite songs: "When You're Sinking", "On and On" and "No Mermaid".

5.0 out of 5 stars A great debut album, February 22, 2005
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after reading a glowing review of it in one of the local papers. I normally don't buy an album based on newspaper reviews, but I'm glad I did this time. I like every song on the disc and Tara MacLean sounds great even though I wish she had more solos since she's the best singer out of the three. Damhnait Doyle is also a great singer with a unique and strong voice. As for Kim Stockwood, I don't think she's incredibly talented. Her voice lacks range and she's constantly overshadowed by Tara and Damhnait. All in all, a good album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tara's Back!, December 8, 2003

I've been a fan of Tara Maclean since her first album, so I couldn't wait for this CD. I wasn't disappointed. It's very different from her usual style, but it fits the three women's voices well. I had never heard Kim Stockwood or Damhnait Doyle; Kim reminded me a bit of Melissa Etheridge. I wasn't overly impressed with Damhnait, but I can see how her voice works well for certain songs.

It's obvious that all three are enjoying themselves on this album, which makes it even more fun to listen to. Favorite tracks: On and On, Beauty, Happy Baby, and Godspeed. The only one I thought should have been left off was Daydream Car.

Overall, a fun ride with three talented women. And new Tara stuff to boot - how could you ask for more? ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Not Sure what else fits!, August 10, 2004
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
I approached this CD with a fair bit of apprehension having read the other reviews! I must admit at first listen it did not quite catch me, but wow! It Just kind of got in my head and stuck there! These three talented women are amazing in the way that they blend their voices together, almost effortless it seems. SOmetimes when all three sing in a verse, its seemless, it just flows so naturally from one voice to the other. I must admit that I am a Tara MacLean fan and that is one of the reasons I had to have this cd, but quite honestly the other women on this CD are just as amazing. THe only real criticism is that one or two fo the songs feel a bit repetitive, but overall its amazing! I especially like Happy Baby, No Mermaid, GodSpeed, How The West was One, Daydream Car, Freedome and On and ON (I really narrowd that down huh?) If You are looking for something you will both enjoy and find some inspiration in, look no further! THis is definetly a great investment! Enjoy it as much as I am!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Effort Ladies!, December 10, 2003
By

Great CD ladies. Solid from start to finish, no filler here. I am not a huge fan of Kim Stockwood, but think Dahmnait Doyle is pretty good, and think Tara MacLean is one of the most underrated and amazing singers in Canada. Other than Sarah McLachlan there is no Canadian woman with a better voice. For people familar with Tara's solo work this record is quite different, much more 'popish' than usual, but she still sounds great. If you like the first single "Happy Baby" you should like the rest of the record as it doesn't differ too much style wise. I susepct this will go down as one of the best, but yet obscure, and largely undiscovered albums of 2003, pick it up! Also worth checking out are Tara's 2 solo records, much less of a pop feel, but beautiful.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
I bought this album a few years ago, and I'm finally getting around to review it. After hearing her on the Lilith Fair collection, I bought 2 albums by Tara MacLean, which were excellent, and I was wondering when she would make another one. Then I found out she made this collaboration with Damhnait Doyle and Kim Stockwood, whose work I was not familiar with. I was very pleased with this album. The three women work well together, harmonizing and soloing. The album blends and highlights their individual styles: Damhnait's bluesy rock, Kim's warm pop-country, and Tara's pure soaring folk voice. This album is a fine collection of quality folk, rock, and pop songs with excellent performances by 3 highly talented professionals. Why Tara and the group have not had more success in the US is a mystery to me, kind of like the Corrs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beauty!, October 29, 2004
By
Chad "nfld" (Newfoundland, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bridge (Audio CD)
"The Bridge" is a very relaxing CD. most of the songs are good IMO, Kim and damhnait are from Newfoundland, so i`m pround to say i am too, they can really sing and i hope they stay around for a long time, Damhnait, Kim and Tara sound perfect together!
Hopefully the next album will be a little faster and up-beat. This is what i think of the songs.

1. on and on: the 2nd single, this song has the most rock feel to it but gets kinda relaxing towards the end. very good song! 10/10

2. Guenivere: This song is ok but not one of the best on the album, takes a while to get used to. 7/10

3. Beauty: the title says it all, beauty! very nice song, one of my favs. for sure. also the 3rd single. 10/10

4. When you`re sinking: Very laid back type of song. one of the best on the album, you have to listen to the lyrics. 10/10

5. Happy Baby: the 1st single, a little pop like compared to the rest, but still a good song. 9/10

6. Big, Fat Babies: the music is great in this song, but the song overall is not one of my favs. 8/10

7. Freedom: I like the energy in this song, very positive! 9.5/10

8. Daydream Car: this song is pretty good, the middle is really cool when they sings fast. but still not one of the better songs. 7.5/10

9. Karma: This is a nice slower song,a little boring though:s 6.5/10

10. How The West Was One: VERY boring! I don`t like this song much, it`s not horible but not my taste. 5/10

11. Godspeed: this song pays up for the last one, very nice song, their voice sounds beautiful. 9/10

12. No Mermaid: Another great song! excelent song to end the CD, alot of CD`s have a bad song at the end but not this one:-) 9.5/10

Best Songs IMO:
on and on
Beauty
When you`re sinking
Freedom
Godspeed
No Mermaid

keep up the good work shaye! see ya in Act 2, Goodspeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing sound, April 22, 2004
By
Shawn King (Charlottetown, PEI, Canada) - See all my reviews

This is a rather amazing album full of diversity. The three musicians pulled into this group have some varying styles which makes their sound very dynamic. The connoations to their home provinces is also rather intersting, especially for Tara. With the death of her sister, Shaye, a few years ago, and the title of the album which leaves reference to the Confederation Bridge (the largest bridge in the world over open water which connects Prince Edward Island, Tara's home province, to New Brunswick) I cannot wait to hear from the Newfoundlanders to bring forth the references for Miss Doyle and Miss Stockwood.
