Fans of LOVE FROM THE ASHES and BEST BUDDIES will recognize Denise Agnew's rich voice in her latest novel, BRIDGES THROUGH THE MIST. In this novel, Agnew's characteristic spirit and passion shine through with intense clarity and ingenuity, providing a captivating read. On the day before her wedding, Alenna Carstairs found her fiancé in bed with another woman. When she threw a hissy fit back at the law office where they both work, she was fired. Alenna had nothing left to lose, so she left America behind for a once in a lifetime opportunity at an archeological dig at a dark Scottish castle with a lurid past. As she scrapes away dirt, Alenna unexpectedly discovers a lovely garnet ring. She places it on her finger, returns to digging, and moments later she realizes that her surroundings have radically changed. A horse and knight loom out of the mist and nearly trample her. Thrust into the fourteenth century, Alenna confronts the societal restrictions enforced by the time. Her independent, outspoken nature refuses to yield as demanded, gaining her the attention of the knight, Tylan of MacBrahin. A sexy, powerful man, she feels unaccountably attracted to him, almost as if they have known one another before. Indeed, feelings of deja vu that began at the archeological dig quickly confirm a world she has somehow known before, right down to the appropriate moment to curtsey to the castle owner's Baron. Unfortunately, the very spirit that attracts Tylan also attracts the attention of the Baron, a man capable of unspeakable evil. Tylan finds himself irrepressibly drawn to Alenna, both by feelings he's kept long hidden, and determination to protect her from danger she doesn't understand. Nevertheless, he desperately tries to resist his feelings, as he has vowed never to become involved with another woman, believing he is cursed after what happened to the last two women in his life. Lovers of time travel romance will delight in BRIDGES THROUGH THE MIST. Agnew has a remarkable ability for story telling, making the reader a participant in the story. She doesn't shy away from the taboo; yet she presents shocking events with grace and insight, creating a believable, beguiling tale of romance.

A Book for All Lovers of Historical Romance,
This review is from: Bridge Through The Mist (CD-ROM)
I will think of this book the next time I find a ring lying on the ground! Like a genie, if I could rub the ring and be transported into the arms of a man like Tynan of MacBrahin, I'd barely notice the culture shock and likely wouldn't care. This is a wonderful historical that is thoughtfully written in a clear and riveting style that pits today's woman with yesterday's hero of legends we all dream about. What manner of man in ancient history would not be embarrassed by a mere lass saving his life? It's supposed to work the other way around. The book is a must read, with the characters containing a subtle underlying humor that can't fail to intrigue you. I highly recommend this book. -Lee Emory

I usually do not like historical novels but this was just a fantastic read. A marvelous story with time travel taken to a different level. The chemistry between Alenna and Tynan was just electrifying with a ending I did not suspect. A definite must buy!!!!!!!!!!!

A truly lovely story...,

I rarely write positive reviews... I've got to stop that behavior and go back and publish reviews of all my favorites. There are a lot of mediocre romance writers out there, and I always feel compelled to vent when I've inadvertently discovered one of their stories. I usually go on to recommend writers I think are deserving of 4 and 5-star reviews. This, however, is an astounding story written by a very, very good writer. I've read several of Denise Agnew's books, and liked them all. I'm not going to distract the reader with other writers' names.
This is a wonderful time-travel story set in Scotland in the 14th century fleshed out with three-dimensional, believeable characters. It was atmospheric (although not always pleasant) with lots of action and the perfect amount of erotic tension and loveplay. Oh my. Keep a tall glass of ice water handy. I started the book on a Monday early evening and had great difficulty putting it down around midnight. I finished it up late Tuesday morning, and I admit I actually clapped my hands toward the end. And yes, I cried somewhere in the middle, too. Would I read it again? Probably not as it is not my preferred sub-genre. Will I put in on my 5-star shelf and recommend it to interested family and friends? Absolutely.

Nicely Done, Good Character Development,

I like Denise Agnew's contemporary romance novels, so I decided to give this a try. I am very glad I did. Like all other Denise Agnew romances, this story is character driven. The strength of it in in the character development and the chemistry in the relationship between the leads. Tynan is a dream of a hero, tormented by his past and living with too much undeserved guilt. Alenna is a strong heroine, who is too stubborn for her own good at times. The two characters fit together beautifully. The secondary characters are left strictly on the sidelines for the most part, but I can honestly say that the villain in this story is particularly vile and not to be ignored. The plot while simple for the most part, had a few surprises which I have to admit I did not see coming, particularly towards the end. I am not sure how historically accurate the time travel element are, however that is not the focus of this story so I left that aspect firmly in the background. I was too caught up in the characters and their road to a happily ever after. This stand alone novel by Agnew is light reading, but it is good light reading and very entertaining. Definitely recommended.

Bridge Through the Mist,
This review is from: Bridge Through the Mist (Kindle Edition)
Alenna Carstairs' is hiding from her life, parts of it anyway. She caught her fiancé the day before their wedding in bed with another woman. And he promptly tells her he doesn't love her anymore. They work in the same law firm and she really thought she could handle being there everyday....until she let her emotions get the better of her and she loses her job. Other than that everything is just fine.
In order to get away from it all, she becomes part of a professional/amateur archeological dig at MacKendrick Castle in Scotland. As she explores she feels as if she has had personal experience in the dungeons and gets away as quickly as she can. Alone she returns to the dig site and does what every archeologist hopes to do-she finds an artifact, a ring that takes her back in time to 1318 and right into the path of a giant warhorse. Tynan of MacBrahin has stored his feelings and his heart behind a hard outer shell and is happy with his life...until a woman literally falls into the path of his warhorse. She isn't like any woman he's ever known in his life. And he has never reacted to another woman the way he reacts to her. Tynan's heart isn't safe from Alenna as much as he tries to fight it. And fight it he does, he doesn't want her cursed as the other women he has taken to his bed have been...they ended up dead and he believes it to be his fault. As Alenna tries to break through Tynan's barriers, Tynan is working to find proof that Baron MacKendrick is a murderer. All of his mistresses end up dead and now he has his eye on Alenna. Tynan is determined that Alenna will not be the next to die. He has to find the truth and tell Alenna how he feels before it's too late. Holy moly...if Alenna and Tynan had fought their feelings for one another much longer I do believe they would have evaporated into the mist. These characters are outstanding as are the others in the world of MacKendrick Castle. Bridge Through the Mist takes us way back to a world with no electricity, no air conditioning, no indoor plumbing! The best way to visit Scotland in 1318 is right here in these pages. Ms. Agnew has written a beautiful romance and I think it is time well spent. Willow Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
