5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff from a band that's going places, December 27, 2007

This review is from: Bridges (Audio CD)
This is a highly recommended CD from a band that is sure to go places. Their music is centered around a blend of acoustic guitar, softly reverberating, jangly electrics, and pleasing vocals that results in a fairly mellow pop sound, but with none of the blandness that afflicts so many of their contemporaries. There's plenty of emotional investment and driving beat to go around, along with musicianship in abundance shining through on each track. Even with their non-bombastic and reserved faintly psychedelic sound, these guys have clearly prayed at the altar of the rock gods. Their songs tend to have complex, non-standard structures, which is hard to pull off successfully, but they do it extremely well. There's no boring verse chorus verse chorus stuff here. My only minor quibble - they COULD rock a bit harder. It's clear they have it in them.

Something that sets them apart is the great male-female harmonies by lead singer Adam Kittredge with Antonia Freybe-Smith, who has one of the most beautiful voices out there in any genre, much less Indie Rock.

There aren't any weak tracks here, but first time listeners should check out Shadow Knows, All the People, Get it Right, Life's a Song, and Where Did You Go, the best songs in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bridges, November 8, 2005
By
This review is from: Bridges (Audio CD)
This is a great new full-length from Victoria's newest batch of rising stars. Layers of keyboards and percussion are drenched in sonic guitar feedback, offering a throwback to classic albums by the Who and Radiohead. Jets proves they can rock their way through upbeat songs such as the opening track, This Way, while also demonstrating their ability handle slower numbers with equal grace. If you appreciate the orchestral pop of Stars and the driving urgency of the Arcade Fire, do not miss this latest release from Jets Overhead - Bridges will quickly prove its worth to fans of contemporary and classical indie rock and pop alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album, February 5, 2006

I love this album. The band is from Victoria, which is where I live (that's cool.) I've heard the song 'seems so far' about a hundred times over the radio, when they were 'the zone's band of the month.' All the songs on this album are excellent. When I first got this album, I could listen to all the songs without skipping any, start to finish.
This is definitely an album you don't rock out to, very mellow and 'hypnotic' as critics put it.
Great album, and recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A frackin' good album., November 26, 2005
This review is from: Bridges (Audio CD)
You know the mark of a truly good band when you can listen to their album from start to finish and not stop once. That's exactly the case with Bridges.

Jets Overhead has firmly placed themselves in my list of top favorite bands. Anyone who is a fan of indie rock music should check this album out. In my opinion, it's a must have.

I think we'll be hearing a lot more about Jets in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars pleasant surprise, May 12, 2010

This CD was a very pleasant surprise!! It is filled with catchy songs that have you coming back for more. Beautiful harmonies and lyrics make it stand out from the average band. In an age where music is no longer heard on the radio or sold in the music store; it is a rare treat to find a band as good as Jets Overhead! This Canadian export does not disappoint...

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Creative Bridge, November 19, 2009

It is hard to listen to Jets Overhead and not try to compare them to something one has heard before. It is because their blend of folk, rock, and psychedelia really defy comparison. I am not a music reviewer, but between the great harmonies, the rhythm and bass line that you can't not move your feet to, and the guitar and keyboard work, the songs build layer upon layer of sweet, sweet music that evokes the mossy forests of their beautiful island.

Get their EP and their most recent CD, No Nations, too. It is a worthy body of work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jets flying High !!, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Bridges (Audio CD)
The bass vibrates in your chest, the male and female vocals interlace then split apart in blissful yearning harmony. The long-distance reverb haze of the guitars open to places explored by many greats. A close approximate would be Nada Surf with a dash of Catherine Wheel perhaps even early U2. The new reelase "No Nations" just as good, with a bit more dreamy, lazy feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great sound and real talent, January 19, 2009

I generally don't listen to this kind of music. Between Bob Dylan and BRMC, this album somehow found it's way into my playlist. But I like it. It's fairly mellow, but very progressive. The vocals are great and the sound strikes me as very unique. Some songs are slightly grungy, other are almost mystical. There is a bit of the Jayhawks to their sound, but it's way more complex than that. A great album.
