It’s Official: 446 Bridges

Often called "The City of Bridges", Pittsburgh has more bridges than any other city, including Venice, Italy. This is the definitive book on Pittsburgh’s bridges by the same duo that brought you The Steps of Pittsburgh. The bridges are architectural and engineering marvels, soaring over rivers and valleys and contributing to the city’s unique sense of place. The book honors them all and includes 150 contemporary and historical photos, tour maps, and historical drawings, along with detailed tables including The Big List identifying each and every bridge in the count.

Includes ten self-guided tours for walkers, cyclists, drivers, and boaters.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive survey, October 3, 2006
This review is from: Bridges of Pittsburgh (Paperback)
Pittsburgh possesses more bridges than even the legendary city of Venice, Italy - 446 bridges total. The Bridges Of Pittsburgh by Bob Regan (A University of Pittsburgh visiting professor and geographic systems expert) is a categorical listing of each of these bridges, written in accessible terms for the intrigued lay reader and the research professional alike. Black-and-white contemporary and historical photographs on nearly every page, along with extensive tables and vignettes of each bridge's history. From railroad, driving, and pedestrian bridges to recommended driving and walking tours, to a quick-reference "Big List" all bridges within the city, Bridges of Pittsburgh is the definitive survey of its chosen topic.

This review is from: Bridges of Pittsburgh (Paperback)
Pretty detailed, starting with the different types of bridges, the history behind them, and the tours that can be done by either walking, driving, biking along the bicycle trails bordering the rivers, or on a boat on the rivers.
