4.0 out of 5 stars The single life according to Bridget!
This little booklet was so much fun to read! It is filled with Fielding's ironic humor and signature style. Bridget has created her own little self-help book. Here, you will learn how to cook, eat, weigh yourself and even how to be your friends' therapist. It is all done with an ironic twist!

Every Helen Fielding fan should get a copy of this book. Granted, I feel it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ummm.....kinda disappointed
I love Bridget Jones, and I do feel a sense of loyalty to her. However, this "Guide" was dumb- it was basically a re-hash of the highlights in the 2 "Bridget" novels. I love Bridget Jones, and I do feel a sense of loyalty to her. However, this "Guide" was dumb- it was basically a re-hash of the highlights in the 2 "Bridget" novels. If you've never read the books, this "guide" might give you just the taste of Bridget you need to get motivated to read the books. If, however, you are a devoted Bridget fan, this book will be useless to you. Bridget gives us the finer points on ordering a pizza, along with photos, just in case the written instructions were confusing. She gives us advice on cooking a lavish dinner for guests (Hello??? Didn't we already chew this in the first novel- ala Bridget's birthday bash?!?). And, Bridget gets to play pseudo-psychiatrist with Jude, Shazzer, her Mum and her Dad- each "session" spans merely 2 paragraphs a piece and ends with Bridget and her "client" getting sloshed on Chardonnay. Yeah, okay- isn't that what she and her mates do about 5 out of 7 nights of the week? In all fairness, I wasn't exactly sure what I expected when I got this "guide", but I know I expected more than a rehash of the 2 best-selling novels. It seems to me that Fielding wants to cash in while the "Bridget Jones" movie is out, thereby striking while the iron is hot. That's fine- just please, Helen, don't recycle old Bridget material. We're hoping for something new! I did, however, give this 2 stars because I chuckled in exactly 3 places, and because I love Bridget and the joy she's brought me and my friends. But, this book isn't worth going ga-ga over.

DO NOT BE FOOLED. Those of Bridget fans waiting for the next installment. . . this isn't it, nor is it a springboard for what is to come. It won't tide you over to the next book. It is silly. A waste of paper and effort (v.b). Honestly. Love Bridget. Love Helen. D.N. love this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing, June 5, 2001
This review is from: Bridget Jones's Guide to Life (Paperback)
This was not v.g. Very disappointing... even though some of the proceeds go to charity, this was still not worth it. Fielding could have been much more creative & innovative with this guide. Instead, the book is sloppy and rushed (too many typos), and simply not funny. She turns Bridget into much more of a silly caricature than she is in the first two Bridget Jones'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Humph., March 9, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bridget Jones's Guide to Life (Paperback)
Being former Singleton & big fan of Bridget Jones' Diary (book & movie...oooh, Mr. Darcy!), I bought this "Guide to Life" hoping for another gem. Humph. The best section is entitled "The Art of Conversation" & it covers about 2 pages. Is mostly gobble-de-gook & lame B&W pictures of getting mold off cheese & how to order pizza. (what Singleton doesn't already have these down pat?)
Good thing about book: Hurrah, is only 55 pages & will be over soon!

1.0 out of 5 stars What Happend Helen???, June 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridget Jones's Guide to Life (Paperback)
Let me begin with stating I LOVED Bridget Jones Diary, Edge of Reason and Cause Celeb; and have recommended them to everyone I know. HOWEVER, this thin bit of nothing was horrid. It was painful to read, with mere allusions to the side-splitting antics excected of Helen Fieldings characters. This is one that will end up in my recycling bin.

4.0 out of 5 stars The profits went to charity....., April 27, 2001

In her review Stacey Mchugh said she was disappointed with this book and thought helen fielding was cashing in on the phenonema. In all fairness this book was released to coincide with Comic Relief which is a charity event which is very popular and well supported here in britain. J.k rowling also released two small books for this cause. You can hardly expect another whole novel can you? These are meant as a fun way to help contribute to a charity which helps people affected by poverty in the UK and africa.

3.0 out of 5 stars At Least I could help less fourtunate people, June 24, 2001
This review is from: Bridget Jones's Guide to Life (Paperback)
I love the other Bridged's diaries, but this one.... I could just finish it at a book store. Not much significant. But it's okay. I still feel good to own this one since the part of the money goes to the less fortunate people.

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick Jones fix., February 18, 2003

This review is from: Bridget Jones's Guide to Life (Paperback)
Don't be fooled! This is not a sequel to The Edge of Reason. It's just a self help book but since this is Bridget Jones it's hardly serious. I liked this book. It was very amusing for the 10 minutes it took to read through it. Unfortunately, a lot of the book just rehashes what happened in the other two books. There is some new material however. I especially enjoyed the instructional photographs. My favorite part of the book is the section on the game "Shag, marry or push off a cliff," which I've become addicted to playing. This book is a must read for Bridget Jones fans but it's not really worth buying.
