Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"This is an entertaining and insightful look at the ever-increasing multigenerational business dilemma in the 21st century. Eye-opening ideas with immediate application to work and home!"
--Cindy Vogt, MBA, SPHR, Director of Human Resources, The Discovery Channel

"When you finish reading this book, it will not go on the bookshelf. Instead, you will keep it at your side and use it as a reference manual. It is loaded with many `how to' tips that are practical and timely. The authors effectively debunk the myths attributed to the various generations and chart a path to success."
--Dan Amann, Promark Financial

More About the Author

Linda, an industrial psychologist, began her career as an author in 2001 because she was doing some research for her work and couldn't find any books on the topic of her research, ethical dilemas of Human Resource professionals. So she decided to write her own book! This book, HRM Ethics, was published in 2002 and was the first of three very different books Linda has authored or co-authored. Her latest book, Using Your Emotional Intelligence to Develop Others, is co-authored by Sheri Caldwell and was released in October 2009. Her second book, Bridging the Generation Gap, was co-authored by Robin Throckmorton and was released in 2007.

Linda has been interviewed by the NBC Nightly news and has been a featured guest on It's Your Call, a syndicated talk show originating on the East Coast. She is a sought after speaker for national conferences on the topics of Human Resource ethics, generational differences and emotional intelligence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Manage Without This, January 6, 2008
By
This review is from: Bridging the Generation Gap: How to Get Radio Babies, Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers to Work Together and Achieve More (Paperback)
Bridging the Generation Gap: How to Get Radio Babies, Boomers, Gen Xers, And Gen Yers to Work Together And Achieve More is an excellent resource for managers who work with every generation in their workplace. It's a good reminder of the differences and similarities the generations have and how the workplace can be more enjoyable once the generations are understood. Academic admission offices should pay attention to Chapter Nine which describes the generation that will be entering college in the next few years.
The number of typos throughout the book were disappointing. Is that a generational thing?

4.0 out of 5 stars Bridging the Generation Gap in Management and in Everyday Life, October 3, 2008
This review is from: Bridging the Generation Gap: How to Get Radio Babies, Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers to Work Together and Achieve More (Paperback)
The book shows once again that the real opportunities and difficulties in management and in everyday life are directly linked to understanding human behaviour and culture. This is a good book for managers who deal with different generations in their workspace, with the differences and similarities the generations have. Real-life cases and recommended solutions can come in handy.

3.0 out of 5 stars A light guide on generational workplace issues., November 15, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A light read on generational issues within the workplace, covering the differences and similarities of core values generally held by each generation of workers, manifestations of these values, and specific tactics that individuals of one generation can use to interact with members of another for mutual benefit.

As a former Latchkey child and borderline Gen X/Gen Y baby, I identify strongly with the values of both generations. I'm admittedly drawn to work environments with similar styles as mine own, not out of conscious age discrimination but lack of desire to force my Gen X values and personal priorities into boxes defined by Baby Boomer and Radio Baby management. I do not consider this a landmark book by any measure, but the case studies and overall recommendations presented within "Bridging the Generation Gap" will surely be insightful to those in large, multi-generational work environments: especially those tasked with managing a broad demographic of workers in U.S. culture.

Overall: 3.5 of 5
