Oh Jeez-Here We Go Again!,

Here's a familiar story:an 80's era funkster goes right for the New Jack swing jugular and fails to attract the attention of the young listeners. Why?Because they sounded great to start with and didn't need to pander to teeny boppers. What makes Roger's album better then most?He married the style to decent songs and didn't really overdo the new jackisms. So enjoy this if you can get a cheap cutout.Otherwise stick with his classic 80's solo albums and his Zapp material because those are classics-the FAR lamer Zapp V not withstanding of course.

IF you are into pure maddening funk then you must be aware of the music of ROGER TROUTMAN. His style is so distinct, at the very start of any of his many songs, you know instantly that is the "ROGER" sound!!. Singing through that voocorder has given him utter uniqueness!!.
He has gain popularity by songs like.."MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE","SO RUFF,SO TUFF","COMPUTER LOVE" and the love anthem "I WANT TO BE YOUR MAN". Perhaps his ultimate song!!. This album is a tad unpopular, nonetheless it posess some pretty solid pieces too...standout cuts are "EVERYBODY GET UP",a pulsing, chugging cut!!. The mournful "TAKE ME BACK", gr8 piece. The busy yet storied "CURIOSITY". My most favourite piece on this project is the maddening, lenghty funk "VICTIM OF LOVE". The vocal and instrumental arrngement is nothing short of amazing!!. The other cuts like "YOU SHOULD BE MINE","EMOTIONS","BREAKTHROUGH" and "LOVE INCORPORATED" are pretty decent as well. Recomended to hardcore ROGER fans and to those who need to add a good album to thier funk collection...Rest in perfect peace ROGER... |
